Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Wednesday 👋

We know that climate change causes a host of environmental problems, but did you also know that it can have a huge impact on public health as a result?

Traditionally, medical schools have not incorporated climate change into their curriculum. But given that the climate crisis continues to worsen, it might be time to re-think that.

Luckily, Europe is rolling out a new initiative that aims to educate future healthcare workers on the health challenges associated with climate change.

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • Training future doctors on climate change 🧑‍⚕️
  • Help us spread the word 🤔
  • A new way to harness solar energy ☀️
  • Educating students on climate change 🏫
  • And more… 💚

🧑‍⚕️ Training Future Doctors On Climate Change

1️⃣ The big picture: European medical schools have launched a groundbreaking network to train future doctors on the health risks posed by climate change. This initiative, led by the University of Glasgow in the UK, includes 25 medical schools across 12 European countries and aims to educate 10,000 medical students over the next three years. The goal is to ensure future healthcare professionals are equipped to handle the growing health challenges linked to climate change, such as those associated with extreme heat, air pollution, and the spread of infectious diseases.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: In Europe alone, extreme heat contributed to over 47,000 deaths last year. The network aims to standardize medical education on climate change across the participating medical schools in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK in order to address the demands of medical students who view climate change as a crucial health risk they will face during their careers. As of 2020, only 15% of medical schools worldwide included climate change and health risks in their curricula. Climate change has been linked to numerous health issues, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, cancer, and mental health problems.

3️⃣ What’s next: This network represents a significant step in aligning medical education with the urgent needs brought on by climate change, ensuring that healthcare professionals are better prepared to mitigate and manage climate-related health risks. There are also plans to expand beyond undergraduate medical education to include postgraduate and professional training programs, which will benefit practicing doctors who may not have received formal education on the health impacts of climate change.

🤔 Help Us Spread the Word: With Which Organization Shall We Share The Most Impactful Advent Calendar

🙌 We’ve received great feedback from one reader about The Most Impactful Advent Calendar, with the suggestion to reach out to the Earthshot Prize (thanks, Kim)!

Love the impact calendar…..just think you need to spread the news of it wider and broader. I don’t see it on social at all and I’m tied into so many green orgs and messages. Can you get Earthshot Prize or each of your receiving orgs to post crazy about it?

🤔 That made me wonder, which organizations do you know that could be interested in the Advent calendar that gives back this holiday season (where 75% of all sales go to our 24 great partner organizations)?

🙋‍♂️ Hit ‘reply’ and let me know! Bonus points if you can share the potential contact info too 😉

📢 More Good News…

🇬🇧 UK appoints its first nature representative:

  • The UK has appointed Ruth Davis as its first Special Representative for Nature at the COP16 biodiversity conference in Colombia.
  • The appointment reflects a growing recognition of the urgent need to address biodiversity loss and environmental decline. The initiative comes amid alarming statistics: one in six species in the UK is at risk of extinction.
  • The establishment of dedicated roles for environmental stewardship in both the UK and other European nations signifies a recognition of the need for urgent action against the climate and nature crises.

☀️ How solar railways can generate electricity:

  • After a year of testing prototypes, Swiss start-up Sun-Ways has received approval for a three-year pilot project in Neuchâtel to develop a system that installs removable solar panels on railway tracks.
  • The project will install 48 panels on a 100-meter stretch of train track, and the generated electricity will feed into the national grid.
  • If successful, this approach could revolutionize how railways are utilized for energy generation, turning existing infrastructure into renewable energy sources without the need for additional land.

🏫 Making climate change education a graduation requirement:

  • The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has introduced a new graduation requirement for incoming students: a course on climate change.
  • The requirement mandates that courses must include at least 30% climate-related content and address two of four areas: scientific foundations, human impacts, mitigation strategies, and project-based learning.
  • The initiative reflects growing concern among younger generations about the climate crisis, and UCSD hopes to lead by example in creating a generation of graduates better prepared for a future shaped by climate change.
