Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Friday 👋

When you think about China and its energy production, what images come to your mind?

Ingloriously, the country has a reputation for contributing to global warming and toxic emissions…

But despite this, they are now also one of the nations at the forefront of the green energy revolution!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • Switching on the world’s largest wind turbine 🌬️
  • Thanks so much for your recommendations 🗞️
  • The new material that could reverse global CO2 levels 👩🏻‍🔬
  • How France’s ban on plastic bottles could slash ocean pollution 🚫
  • And more… 💚

🌬️ How the World’s Largest Wind Turbine Could Reshape Energy and Environment

1️⃣ The big picture: China has made a significant leap in renewable energy by installing the largest wind turbine ever, with a towering height of 242 meters and massive 128-meter blades. This 20 MW offshore giant, situated in Hainan, has the capacity to power 96,000 homes annually. Despite its immense benefits, its activation has unexpectedly altered the microclimate around its location, sparking interest in the broader impacts of such massive structures.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This engineering feat represents a major forward stride in harnessing wind energy, achieving unparalleled efficiency in electricity generation. By needing fewer turbines to produce more power, it minimizes the spatial footprint of wind farms, making it a sustainable solution for global energy needs. The turbine’s design also specifically caters to areas with high wind speeds, including typhoon-prone regions, showcasing its robustness and versatility.

3️⃣ What’s next: As the turbine begins operation, researchers are keenly observing the changes in local wind patterns and temperatures to gauge long-term environmental impacts. This situation underscores the necessity for comprehensive environmental assessments before scaling such technologies. Moving forward, balancing technological advancement with ecological preservation will be crucial as offshore wind energy continues to expand globally. This includes studying impacts on coastal climates, bird migration, and marine ecosystems to ensure that the push for renewable energy doesn’t inadvertently harm natural systems.

📢 Three More Good News

👩🏻‍🔬 The new material that could reverse global CO2 levels:

  • A newly developed material called COF-999 can efficiently capture carbon dioxide from ambient air. Unlike current technology, this new material works significantly well at capturing CO2 even at low concentrations.
  • While other devices are efficient in environments with concentrated CO2, the COF-999 can absorb carbon more efficiently and offer a new solution for reducing global CO2 levels.
  • Researchers are now planning to optimize this material for faster absorption and larger storage. If this technology was scaled up, the COF-999 can become a key player in reducing CO2 levels back to pre-industrial levels.

🚘 The waste-to-hydrogen tech Hyundai is pledging $4.1B on:

  • Motor company Hyundai is exploring hydrogen production and will incorporate waste-to-hydrogen fuel cells and technologies into its operations.
  • This investment in hydrogen is a huge step toward reducing global carbon emissions. By converting food waste into hydrogen power, the company is tackling both waste and pollution challenges.
  • Now, Hyundai plans to expand hydrogen technology to include trains, ships, and planes, and has pledged $4.1 billion to hydrogen development. At this current rate, the company is nearing its goal of carbon neutrality by 2045 and could contribute to a greener economy across the globe.

🚫 How France’s ban on plastic bottles could slash ocean pollution:

  • A French politician, Pierre Cazeneuve, is proposing a ban on plastic water bottles due to their plastic content. This is in line with the current initiatives in France to reduce single-use plastics, although laws have not yet been applied to small plastic water bottles.
  • Plastic water bottles are hardly ever recycled properly and are rather more likely to be dumped in oceans, contributing to environmental harm. This ban will directly address one of the major sources of plastic pollution and could significantly eliminate plastic waste.
  • Public support is strong, with two-thirds of French citizens in favor of the ban. If successful, this ban will be a huge step forward in reducing plastic use in France, and could inspire other nations to follow suit.
