DAY 23

You’ve Helped Bring Clean Water to One Family for 30 Days

Together with charity: water

🤝

What is your positive impact today?

Starting today, you’ve helped bring clean water to one family for 30 days. And with the help of local partners, you’ve also helped fund water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs within their rural community that enable and promote safe hygiene practices. This access to clean water means increased education, income, and health opportunities for this family – especially for the women and kids. And because access to clean water is one of the most powerful tools for sparking economic growth, you’ve helped create a long-term impact that goes beyond clean water and hygiene: every dollar invested in joint water supply and sanitation provides a 4.3x economic return.

💚

Why is your impact important?

703 million people in the world live without clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide (or, twice the population of the United States). The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Women and girls are responsible for water collection in 8 out of 10 households with water off-premises. And every day, all the women and girls around the world spend an estimated 200 million hours collecting water.

Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick. And diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

⚒️

How are we achieving your impact together?

Our impactful partner for today is charity: water. They work with local partner organizations to bring clean water to remote areas with the greatest needs and most vulnerable populations. This enables them to establish sustainable, community-owned water projects. Together with their partners, they also facilitate comprehensive water, sanitation, and hygiene programming to protect everyone’s long-term health.

They have funded over 154,000 water projects in 29 countries and, when completed, these projects provide over 18.6 million people with clean, safe drinking water.

For many of us, clean water is so plentiful and readily available that we rarely, if ever, pause to consider what life would be like without it.
