Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: 500 retired electric vehicle batteries will soon be repurposed in Texas to provide 24 megawatt hours of energy storage for the electric grid, creating a valuable second life for these batteries while helping to stabilize the power system.
📈 One key stat: The second-life EV battery market is forecasted to grow into a $4.2 billion industry by 2035, demonstrating the massive economic potential of repurposing rather than recycling these resources.
💬 One key quote: “We’re really helping to pioneer and demonstrate to the automotive industry that repurposing makes a lot of sense for a pretty healthy number of batteries before they’re truly ready for end of life and recycling,” Freeman Hall, co-founder and CEO, said in an interview.

1️⃣ The big picture: A California company called B2U Storage Solutions is giving 500 electric vehicle batteries a second life by repurposing them for grid energy storage in Bexar County, Texas. These batteries, which retain about 70-80% of their original capacity but are no longer suitable for cars, will provide 24 megawatt hours of storage capacity when the facility becomes operational later this year. The system will charge when renewable energy is abundant and cheap, then discharge power when needed most. This innovative approach extends the useful life of these batteries by approximately eight years before they need recycling, making better use of valuable minerals like lithium, nickel, and cobalt.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This breakthrough creates a circular economy solution for the growing number of retired EV batteries that would otherwise head straight to recycling facilities. By extending their useful life by about eight years, B2U’s technology significantly delays the need to mine more critical minerals. The system also helps stabilize Texas’ electric grid by storing excess renewable energy when it’s abundant and releasing it during peak demand times. Batteries have already made significant contributions to preventing summer blackouts in Texas, with nearly 4,000 megawatts of battery capacity added to the grid just last year. The technology allows B2U to create large-scale storage at lower costs than installing new batteries, creating both economic and environmental benefits.

3️⃣ What’s next: B2U plans to deploy three additional grid-storage projects in Texas over the next year, bringing their total capacity to 100 megawatt hours across the state. The technology is expected to become less expensive to operate as innovations speed up quality assurance processes. As EV sales continue growing rapidly, many more retired batteries will soon become available for grid stabilization projects like this one.
