However, knowledge gaps remain significant – 84% of landowners haven’t had their lands evaluated for carbon removal potential, and most rate their carbon market understanding quite low at 2.8 out of 10.

The survey indicates financial incentives align with environmental benefits, suggesting high potential for scaling up afforestation efforts.

The significant upfront investment costs of around €2000/ha need to be addressed through funding solutions. Additionally, efforts should focus on evaluating more lands for carbon removal potential, since 84% remain unassessed.
