💚 A Groundbreaking Way to Reduce Emissions 🌍

Hey fellow impactful ninja ?
You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.
Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.
But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.
Why do we add these product links?
First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.
And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.
What do these affiliate links mean for you?
First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.
And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.
What do these affiliate links mean for us?
When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).
And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.
What does this mean for me personally?
You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.
Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.
Stay impactful,
Happy Wednesday 👋
Although carbon dioxide (CO₂) is a vital part of life on earth, human activities have significantly increased CO₂ levels beyond what is beneficial.
A big part of protecting our planet’s future involves decreasing these levels, which is easier said than done.
But there is good news!
Scientists have discovered a new, and unlikely, way to reduce CO2. And the method has more than one benefit…

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:
- A new method to reduce CO2 🌍
- How the Premier League is going green ⚽
- Advancing hydrogen energy in Antarctica ⚛️
- Discussion of the week: sustainable travel and commute options 💬
- And more… 💚

🌍 Scientists Discover a New and Unusual Way to Reduce CO2
1️⃣ The big picture: Yale chemists have developed a groundbreaking method for converting carbon dioxide (CO₂) into formate, a chemical compound primarily used in preservatives and pesticides, and potentially for more complex materials. Rather than following the common approach of turning CO₂ into carbon monoxide, the method uses a molecular manganese catalyst that is attached to porous silicon, a semiconducting material. When exposed to light, the silicon absorbs energy, transferring electrons to the manganese catalyst, which then converts CO₂ into formate. This work is a part of efforts within Yale’s Center for Natural Carbon Capture and the CHASE solar energy research hub, supported by the US Department of Energy.
2️⃣ Why is this good news: This innovative process opens a new path for transforming greenhouse gases into valuable products, which could help address environmental challenges by reducing CO₂ emissions. Most notably, the process operates under milder conditions—requiring less extreme temperatures and pressures—making it more energy-efficient and potentially scalable for industrial use.
3️⃣ What’s next: The researchers believe this discovery could also have broader applications in the development of catalysts for other chemical feedstocks, paving the way for sustainable chemical production from alternative sources. The study highlights a potential solution to reducing the environmental impact of fossil fuel-derived chemicals and advancing towards greener alternatives.

📢 More Good News…
🐟 The innovative solution aiding fish migration in the Netherlands:
- The Fish Doorbell in Utrecht, Netherlands, is an innovative solution that helps migratory fish, like bream, pike, and bass, move through the Weerdsluis lock during their spring migration.
- Launched in 2021, the doorbell features a live-stream camera showing underwater footage of fish passing through the lock. Viewers from around the world can press a button when they spot fish, alerting the lock keeper to open the gate, allowing the fish to continue their journey unhindered.
- The system not only helps fish but also contributes to environmental monitoring. The camera allows ecologists to track fish species, monitor water quality, and observe behavioral changes, offering valuable insights into the health of the local ecosystem.
⚽ How the Premier League is going green:
- Tottenham Hotspur has become the first Premier League club to join the UN’s Sports for Nature Framework, reinforcing its reputation as the league’s most environmentally conscious team.
- This commitment aims to protect and restore biodiversity, assess environmental risks, and educate fans on sustainability — all part of a broader push for nature-positive action by 2030.
- The team has planted hundreds of trees, created wildflower meadows, and installed wildlife ponds, 540 bat houses, and 25 bug hotels. They also use an award-winning system to track pollination and bird activity, gathering data to guide conservation efforts.
⚛️ Advancing hydrogen energy in Antarctica:
- China has achieved the first-ever application of hydrogen energy technology in Antarctica at its Qinling Station.
- Using a domestically developed hydrogen fuel cell, the station can generate electricity for up to 24 days with a peak output of 30 kilowatts. The system, part of the station’s microgrid, stores excess wind and solar power as hydrogen for later use, ensuring continuous energy supply.
- This innovation cuts carbon emissions and coal use while maintaining high efficiency, even in extreme cold. Its success demonstrates the viability of hydrogen energy in harsh environments and sets a precedent for future sustainable energy systems in remote areas.

💧 March 9-15, National Groundwater Awareness Week:
- National Groundwater Awareness Week was founded in 1999 by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) to educate the public about the importance of conserving and protecting groundwater.
- The aims of the event are also to encourage yearly water well testing and promote policies impacting groundwater quality and supply.
🫘 March 13, World Kidney Day:
- Observed annually on the 2nd Thursday of March, World Kidney Day is a global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of kidneys.
- Around the world, events like public screenings and seminars are organized to encourage people to prioritize the health of their kidneys.
🏞️ March 14, International Day of Action for Rivers:
- Rivers are essential to civilization, providing fresh water, travel routes, and habitats for animals.
- Despite their importance, freshwater ecosystems are the most threatened in the world, so this day encourages people to join conservation efforts.
