Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

ADHD, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurological condition affecting both children and adults. There is still much misinformation about the condition, especially regarding the behavioral differences in children with the condition. And its awareness month in October is the perfect time for us to promote inclusivity and ensure everyone with ADHD feels supported and empowered. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s ADHD Awareness Month?

Keep on reading to find out all the important information about ADHD Awareness Month at a glance, including its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About ADHD Awareness Month at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: ADHD Awareness Month is a time to reflect on what ADHD is, how the disorder affects people, and celebrate neurodiversity in general. It sets the stage for advocating new perspectives and better support systems for children and adults with ADHD. Despite the stereotype of hyperactivity, lack of focus, and ‘disruptive behavior’ in school-age children, people with ADHD can also be creative problem solvers, capable of deep focus on tasks that interest them and bring innovation to their work.

2️⃣ Why it is important: ADHD is a type of neurodiversity affecting many aspects of one’s life. Also, many people don’t realize they have it until late into adulthood. This neurodevelopmental disorder affects about 5 in 100 people globally, including 7.2% of children and adolescents and 2.5% – 6.7% of adults. On top of that, children with ADHD often struggle at mainstream school and are labeled as being lazy or difficult. ADHD Awareness Month is an opportunity to bring attention to this potentially life-long disorder that is affecting many.

3️⃣ How you can get involved: There are many ways to get involved in ADHD Awareness Month, from raising awareness to providing financial support.

  1. Learn About ADHD: Educate yourself and others about the scientific and research-based facts of ADHD to understand the community’s challenges and opportunities.
  2. Spread The Word: Share a fact on social media or wear an ADHD Awareness Month orange ribbon to start a conversation and raise awareness.
  3. Support Neurodivergent Organizations: Donate to or volunteer with organizations that provide funding and support groups and run advocacy initiatives to raise awareness around ADHD.

Below are our favorite charities that are especially relevant for ADHD Awareness Month:

A Brief History of ADHD Awareness Month

When was this event established: ADHD Awareness Month was established by a coalition of advocacy groups including CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), ACO (ADHD Coaches Organization), and ADDitude Magazine. Originally instituted by the US Senate as a one-day event in 2004, it was expanded to a full month of October to increase education and awareness.

How has it developed since then: Since its establishment, ADHD Awareness Month has grown into an international campaign, with organizations worldwide participating to spread information, debunk myths, and advocate for better diagnosis and treatment. Social media, virtual events, and widespread media coverage now play a key role in engaging more people and fostering understanding of ADHD.

3 Interesting Facts About ADHD Awareness Month

  1. Genetic Component: ADHD has a strong genetic component. Studies show that it tends to run in families, with around 80% of ADHD cases thought to be inherited. If a parent has ADHD, there is a significantly higher chance that their child will also have the condition.
  2. Hyperfocus As a Symptom: While ADHD is typically characterized by inattention and distractibility, paradoxically, people with ADHD can also experience hyperfocus. This means they may become so deeply absorbed in an activity they enjoy or find stimulating that they lose track of time and ignore other responsibilities.
  3. Often Part of a Bigger Picture: 80% of adults and 44% of children with ADHD have at least one additional mental health condition
