Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Wednesday 👋

The current climate crisis is widely considered our most urgent and complex global challenge that affects all of humanity.

Some experts state that we are at a tipping point. Unless we take action now, our fossil fuel usage will have wide-reaching social, economic, and environmental consequences.

Well the good news is that the 29th installment of the world’s foremost, global climate conference just kicked off in Azerbaijan…

And it could prove to be one of the most pivotal moments in the fight against climate change.

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

🌎 Global Climate Conference Begins in Azerbaijan

1️⃣ The big picture: The 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – UNFCCC (COP29) opened in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 11, 2024. COP29 opened with a clear message: the world needs to take immediate, meaningful action on both climate finance and emissions reductions. As political upheavals continue to shape the global landscape, there is growing pressure for nations to cooperate and fulfill the promises made under the Paris Agreement.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: With the world’s climate already showing the impacts of global warming, a recent UN report revealed that to have a chance at limiting global warming to 1.5°C, global carbon emissions must be cut by 42% by 2030. With the world already 1.3°C warmer than pre-industrial times, experts emphasized the urgent need to ramp up efforts to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement’s targets. COP29 aims to accelerate global action on climate change, with a primary focus on securing stronger commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increasing climate finance for developing nations, and advancing the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

3️⃣ What’s next: With urgent calls from both leaders and activists, the next two weeks will be pivotal in determining whether the international community can unite to address the existential threat of climate change. Finance Commitments will remain a central focus as countries work to reach a substantial deal on climate finance, negotiators will continue to address critical issues such as carbon emissions reduction, adaptation for vulnerable nations, and strengthening the Global Climate Fund, and there will also be an ongoing discussion around loss and damage, particularly for countries facing irreversible impacts from climate disasters.

📅 Sustainable & Impactful Advent Calendars Are on Their Way

In case you missed it: We are currently offering The Most Impactful Advent Calendar for you, to provide an impactful alternative to the mainstream Advent calendars that mostly offer short-lived joy through unhealthy sweets or cheap toys!

And we have great news from our sustainable printing company: our Advent calendars are now printed, cut, and glued and will shortly be shipped to our local logistics partner 🥳

Btw, did you know that finding a sustainable printing company was actually one of our big challenges?

We originally couldn’t find one that operates sustainably AND has experience with Advent calendars. So, our workaround was to work with one of the most sustainable ones around and figure out a way to get our calendars printed (plus cut and glued).

And we are lucky to have found the Eco Friendly Printer (for them it’s also the first working on a project like ours)!

How sustainable are the calendars?

I’m glad you asked: they are sustainably printed in the US, using 100% non-toxic toner, on recycled, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper, and shipped in kraft mailers.

Beyond that, we also offer a zero-waste option that’s electronically delivered via email, every day from December 1st till December 24th.

📢 More Good News…

🚗 Why Paris is banning cars:

  • Paris has joined other major European cities in introducing a central car-free zone, officially banning most motorists from driving through the city’s core area. This traffic-restricted area, known as a “ZTL” (Zone à Trafic Limité), spans approximately 5.5 square kilometers.
  • The initiative aims to reduce noise and air pollution, as well as traffic congestion in iconic areas like Avenue de l’Opéra and Boulevard de Sébastopol.
  • The city plans to implement stricter measures, including fines up to €135 and potentially installing cameras for license plate monitoring, and officials hope the new restrictions will encourage Parisians to rely more on public transportation.

🌳 How Colombia is protecting mangrove ecosystems:

  • The Vida Manglar project in Colombia stands as a groundbreaking example of how community-driven conservation can protect vital ecosystems while simultaneously promoting climate action.
  • This initiative seeks to conserve and restore 7,500 hectares of mangrove forest—an ecosystem known for its high carbon sequestration capacity, biodiversity benefits, and coastal protection.
  • This model is crucial as countries like Colombia move toward fulfilling their international commitments, including the COP15 goal of protecting 30% of land and oceans by 2030, and combating the global decline of biodiversity.

✊ A labor rights win for UK drivers:

  • Thousands of Bolt drivers in the UK have won a significant legal victory, with an employment tribunal ruling that they should be classified as employees rather than self-employed contractors.
  • This decision affects around 15,000 drivers, who are now entitled to workers’ rights and employment protections under UK law.
  • These rulings mark a significant shift in the gig economy, where many companies rely on classifying their workforce as self-employed to avoid providing employment benefits.
