Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: The Antarctic ozone hole in 2025 was the fifth smallest measured since 1992, covering an average of 7.23 million square miles during its peak season, showing clear evidence that the Montreal Protocol continues to successfully heal our protective ozone shield.
📈 One key stat: This year’s ozone hole would have been more than one million square miles larger without the 33% reduction in ozone-depleting substances achieved since their peak around 2000.
💬 One key quote: “As predicted, we’re seeing ozone holes trending smaller in area than they were in the early 2000s. They’re forming later in the season and breaking up earlier,” said Paul Newman, a senior scientist at the University of Maryland system and longtime leader of NASA’s ozone research team.

1️⃣ The big picture: Scientists from NOAA and NASA report that the 2025 Antarctic ozone hole ranks as the fifth smallest measured since 1992, when the Montreal Protocol began reducing ozone-depleting chemicals. This year’s hole covered approximately 7.23 million square miles during its peak season and broke apart almost three weeks earlier than the typical timing seen over the past decade. The ozone layer functions as Earth’s protective shield against harmful ultraviolet radiation, which can cause skin cancer, cataracts, crop damage, and other environmental concerns. This year’s smaller hole demonstrates the continuing recovery of the ozone layer as a result of global action to phase out harmful chemicals.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The smaller ozone hole directly reflects the success of the Montreal Protocol in reducing harmful chlorine and bromine compounds in the stratosphere. Levels of ozone-depleting substances have declined by about a third from their peak around 2000, preventing what would have been a much larger hole. The ozone layer continues to strengthen, providing better protection against harmful UV radiation that can damage human health and ecosystems. Weather balloon measurements showed improved minimum ozone values compared to historical lows, with the 2025 minimum reaching 147 Dobson Units versus the record low of 92 in 2006. This progress reinforces scientists’ prediction that the ozone layer remains on track to return to pre-ozone hole conditions later this century.

3️⃣ What’s next: Researchers expect the Antarctic ozone hole to continue recovering, potentially returning to pre-ozone hole conditions by the late 2060s as emissions from legacy sources decline. Scientists will continue comprehensive global monitoring through satellites, weather balloons, and ground-based instruments to track this recovery. Natural variations in temperature patterns, weather systems, and polar vortex strength will still influence year-to-year ozone behavior.
