Some charities provide scholarships and career mentorship to help truck drivers thrive in their profession while politically advocating for the rights of truckers nationwide. Other charities provide physical places of respite and online communities where truckers can network and find a place to belong.

Truckload Carriers Association: Success for Truckers and Their Communities

According to their financial report, the Truckload Carriers Association spent 68% of their total income on charitable programs and 32% on organizational expenses. Their Scholarships Fund also has a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.

The Truckload Carriers Association supports the welfare of truck drivers and the customers they serve. They do this through a nationwide network of members from the truckload industry to whom they offer benefits and resources to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services. The charity also provides scholarships, certifications, and an Online Learning Center to help truckers advance their careers. In addition, they advocate with federal policymakers for issues and legislation affecting trucking professionals while organizing nationwide events to unite truck drivers. 

Today, the Truckload Carriers Association represents 75% of the total US goods moved by truck. This accounts for around 200,000 drivers who operate more than 220,000 trucks and collectively produce revenue of over $40 billion each year. Since their founding, they have awarded over 50 scholarships worth up to $6,300 each so truckers can grow their careers. Furthermore, they have campaigned for policy improvements in 10 areas affecting truck drivers, including the buildout of infrastructure for electric trucks. The Trucking Cares Foundation mobilizes trucking professionals nationwide in volunteering opportunities and fundraising initiatives to spark a sense of unity and belonging within the trucking industry and in drivers’ communities. For example, they support truck drivers to serve humanitarian efforts, anti-trafficking operations, and underprivileged communities. In addition, they provide workforce development within the trucking industry and equip truck drivers with professional, academic, and scientific knowledge of vehicle and highway security. 

To date, the Trucking Cares Foundation has helped 8 million professional drivers advance their careers and support their communities by raising over $650,000 for truckers or other people in need. For example, in 2024, they helped truck drivers invest $65,000 in nonprofits that train the next generation of trucking industry professionals. In the same year, they donated $55,000 for drivers experiencing hardships and driving lessons for future truckers. They also provided $80,000 to victims of hurricanes, human trafficking, and domestic violence.

St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund has a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and holds the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar.

St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund 

St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund serves nationwide truck drivers and their families when an illness or injury has caused them to be out of work. They assist with payments for everyday expenses such as rent or mortgage, utilities, vehicle payments, and insurance, as well as how to negotiate price reductions with hospitals. Moreover, they provide free health programs to prevent common medical illnesses in truckers. These programs include diabetes prevention, chronic disease management, cancer screenings, and free vaccines.

Since their founding, St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund has given over $5 million in financial assistance to over 4,000 professional drivers in need across all 50 states. For example, between 2013 and 2023, they supported over 3,000 truckers with everyday payments as they were recovering from injuries and couldn’t work. Moreover, since 2015, they have improved health outcomes for 1,050 truck drivers and administered more than 1,000 free vaccines. And, in 2017, they launched the “Rigs Without Cigs” tobacco cessation campaign to help truckers quit smoking and protect their health.

Truckers Final Mile: Respect and Dignity for the North American Truck Driver

Truckers Final Mile fights to reunite drivers and families in times of crisis. For example, they run programs that aid trucking professionals if they experience a debilitating injury that requires hospitalization. They do this by paying for a family member to travel and stay with the injured driver, receive accommodation together, and travel back to their home city. They also pay for transportation expenses and funeral services when a truck driver loses their life on the road, regardless of the cause. In addition, they provide mobility improvements in the homes of truckers who lost their career due to a debilitating injury. 

To date, Truckers Final Mile has helped reunite over 600 truck drivers and families with the assistance of six emergency support programs. For example, in 2023, they provided $178,000 in financial assistance to 97 trucking professionals. In addition, they have launched a program that offered rehabilitating services to tens of children who lost their truck driver parent. They have also provided 50 college savings plans worth $500 each for youth who have lost a trucker parent. Moreover, they have created a program that helps truckers travel and support a family member who has experienced a serious accident.

Women In Trucking Association: From the Driver Seat to the C-Suite

The Women In Trucking Association encourages the employment of women in the trucking industry, promotes their accomplishments, and combats obstacles they face. They do this by providing vocational scholarships and a Career Center to ensure that women truck drivers have the support they need to grow their skills. They also have a mentoring program and organize webinars and nationwide educational conferences. In addition, they advocate for inclusive corporate cultures that respect the needs of women truckers and hold awards and recognition programs to celebrate their hard work.

Since their founding, the Women In Trucking Association has provided hundreds of $1,000 scholarships to women truck drivers to help advance their careers. Today, they have a network of 5,500 trucking industry members and 600 drivers. For example, in 2023, they supported 6,000 people in accessing webinars and digital educational platforms providing mentorships and workplace resources. In the same year, their academic conferences helped 1,700 women truck drivers to network, learn industry best practices, and build a Women In Trucking community.

Association of Christian Truckers: Roll On With Jesus

According to their financial report, the Association of Christian Truckers spent 93.3% on charitable initiatives and 6.7% on organizational costs.

The Association of Christian Truckers owns two truck stops called Road Angel Truckers Centers where their volunteers and on-site chaplain are available to help drivers 24/7. The facilities also include a chapel, free meals, bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and a lit parking lot for 35 truck rigs. They also provide sleeping rooms for drivers who experience truck breakdowns. Each Sunday, they hold a chapel service with community meals. In addition, they have special holiday functions for drivers away from loved ones, like July 4 celebrations, Christmas meals, and a Jamboree festival in September. 

Since their founding, the Association of Christian Truckers has housed thousands of truckers in their truck stops, providing religious services and resources such as food, accommodation, and community. In addition, their Truckers Jamboree festival has united over 500 truckers each year to enjoy outdoor concerts and home-cooked meals. Furthermore, between 2018 and 2022, they renovated and expanded their truck stops to welcome more trucking professionals in need.

TFC Global: A Ministry for Professional Drivers

TFC Global provides chaplaincy services to the trucking community through preventative crisis care and spiritual guidance. They collaborate with trucking companies and associations to connect drivers with Christian pastors for one-on-one care sessions. They also offer a 24/7 helpline for truckers to receive counseling in case of traumatic events. Moreover, they provide support for drivers to be returned home after a mortal or debilitating accident. In addition, they help truckers fight against human trafficking by training them to recognize and report it. 

Since their founding, TFC Global has trained hundreds of chaplains and overseas missionaries to expand their help for truckers worldwide. Today, they support hundreds of truckers in Canada, the US, Russia, Zambia, Paraguay, Tanzania, and Brazil. For example, in North America, they own 42 truck stop locations with chapels, Bible studies, and driver’s lounges. Also, since 1957, they have released the Highway News and Good News magazine, distributing 16,000 copies each month for free.

Real Women in Trucking: Real Drivers, Real Issues

Real Women in Trucking holds the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar.

Real Women in Trucking equips drivers with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed in the industry by providing education and mentorship on specific issues. For example, their advocacy work at the White House advances a safer and more accountable trucking industry. In addition, they fight against the issues of sexual assault and harassment in trucking. They also advocate for equitable access to job access and ads for female truck drivers and research the cost of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Since their founding, Real Women in Trucking has been recognized internationally as advocates for truck drivers and women. For example, in 2022, they supported 82 female truck drivers and helped 17,000 trucking professionals increase their awareness of issues affecting women in trucking, such as sexual assault. In the same year, they provided education and mentorship to 1,025 female truckers and held 25 advocacy meetings with policymakers to advance gender-based rights in trucking.

Truckers Against Trafficking: Educating, Empowering, and Mobilizing Truckers to Save Victims

Truckers Against Trafficking 

Truckers Against Trafficking partners with the trucking industry to empower professional truck drivers to understand human trafficking and how they can help combat it. They also collaborate with truck stop personnel so other frontline heroes can make a difference in the lives of victims. For example, their Industry Training Program helps truck drivers know how human trafficking works, recognize traffickers in action, and act fast to support law enforcement. For this, they also organize nationwide presentations, workshops, conventions, and social media awareness campaigns. 

To date, Truckers Against Trafficking has trained over 2 million trucking industry members on how to combat human trafficking through hundreds of nationwide presentations. As a result, according to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, the majority of truck drivers who report trafficking tips learned them through this nonprofit. For example, one of their trained truckers who reported a tip precipitated the arrest and conviction of 31 traffickers, the release of nine people from the sex industry, and the fall of an organized crime ring that had been active in 13 states.

How Can You Select the Best Charities to Support?

The charities on the list are, we deem, the best charities that support truck drivers. However, you may have a particular charity you want to support. Let’s look at what you can do to ensure your contribution has the most significant impact.

• Check out the charity website. Charities that are worthy of your donations are transparent in their mission and their figures. Familiarise yourself with their history, mission, and values. Their website usually is the best place to start.
• Identify the charity’s mission. Without a goal, the charity is likely to fail. If the charity’s mission isn’t clear, it’s probably worth looking for a charity that does have a clear mission. 
• Check if the charity has measurable goals. An effective charity has clear goals. You want to know your donation will help the charity reach its goals. But if it doesn’t have targets, it’s likely to fail or squander your gift. The charity should be able to account for its spending and supply evidence of the work they do.
• Assess the successes or goals the charity has achieved. You wouldn’t invest in a business if it kept missing its targets. In the same way, charities are like this too. If no one is assessing a charity’s progress in reaching its targets, the chances are they’re not making a substantial positive change.
• Check the charity’s financials and stats. Trustworthy organizations will publish financial statements and reports each year. Some might be exempt from having to do so, but they should be able to provide them to public members who are interested in donating.
• Locate sources who work with or benefit from the charity. Word of mouth and first-hand experience of a charity’s work lets you know the charity’s quality. If you’re able to do so, check out the charity for yourself or speak to someone familiar with it. This way, your donation will go to the right place. 

How Can You Best Support These Charities?

After you’ve made your decision, it’s time for you to decide on how you’d like to help the charities you’ve chosen. Check how you can help – each charity runs specific programs that have unique aims. Find out what the aim of such programs is and whether they are right for you.

So, you can support them by buying the mugs, shirts, caps, pens, pencils, and any other such items they may be selling. Ideally, you should buy as much as you can to share and spread the word about the charity’s activities.
• Engage in volunteer work. As you’ve seen from our descriptions above, some charities engage in a lot of local and grassroots programs. You can help by taking on and organizing the program in your local area.
