Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Wednesday 👋

When you think of wind energy, you might think of large, spinning turbines blades.

But what if the future of wind energy didn’t spin at all?

A Spanish startup is ditching the turbines and instead using the silent hum of the wind itself.

It’s quieter, cheaper, and surprisingly powerful—and it just might shake up the way we think about wind forever!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • The bladeless wind turbines that could replace wind farms 🌬️
  • How one kid’s invention could outsmart tornadoes 🌪️
  • How golf courses are transforming into wildlife havens ⛳
  • Discussion of the week: stronger community relationships 💬
  • And more… 💚

🌬️ Spanish Startup Develops Bladeless Wind Turbines

1️⃣ The big picture: Bladeless Vortex, a Spanish startup, is pioneering a revolutionary form of wind energy that eliminates the spinning blades of traditional wind turbines. Instead, their technology relies on vibrational energy to generate electricity. The bladeless wind turbine is a 2.75-meter tall cylindrical pole made of flexible materials. As wind flows past it, the cylinder oscillates due to a physical phenomenon called vortex shedding (or wind-induced vorticity). These vibrations are captured by a linear generator at the base, which converts the motion into direct current (DC) electricity. The system requires no moving parts, making it quieter, more durable, and less expensive to manufacture and maintain than traditional turbines.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Traditional wind turbines have been under scrutiny for their environmental impact, particularly on bird populations, which suffer due to collisions with large spinning blades. These turbines have also been linked to human health issues, such as migraines and insomnia, from low-frequency noise. In contrast, bladeless turbines eliminate these risks by removing moving mechanical parts and relying on vibrating cylindrical structures.

3️⃣ What’s next: Although current prototypes have lower energy conversion efficiency than conventional turbines, they are designed for complementary use, particularly in environments unsuitable for large wind farms—urban areas, rooftops, or wildlife-sensitive zones. They are also simpler and cheaper to manufacture, easier to install, require minimal maintenance, and have no rotating parts, increasing safety and reliability. The company aims to scale up the technology to create future models capable of producing 1 kilowatt or more, enough to power homes or contribute to microgrids.

📢 More Good News…

🇳🇱 Why Amsterdam is building hundreds of mini staircases:

  • In response to rising animal drownings, Amsterdam is investing €100,000 to install small staircases—“wildlife exit points”—along its canals
  • Inspired by a similar initiative in Amersfoort, which added 300 wooden ladders, the project aims to help animals like cats and ducks climb out of the water when they fall in.
  • The project represents a growing commitment in the Netherlands to urban wildlife protection and public safety, as the safety upgrade also complements existing efforts to reduce human drownings.

🌪️ How one kid’s invention could outsmart tornadoes:

  • Twelve-year-old Anirudh Rao from Colorado (US) is reimagining tornado safety with a groundbreaking invention called Revere—a drone-based early warning system that detects tornadoes before they form using infrasound and atmospheric data.
  • His prototype drones pick up the low-frequency infrasound that tornadoes emit before they form and relay atmospheric data—pressure, temperature, wind patterns—to a base station, potentially giving communities critical extra minutes to seek shelter.
  • Supported by Young Planet Leaders, Anirudh’s work exemplifies how youth are transforming environmental leadership. Rather than relying on costly radar installations, his swarm of inexpensive, autonomous drones could outpace traditional detection methods restricted by geography and human oversight.

How golf courses are transforming into wildlife havens:

  • Across the globe, former golf courses are being transformed into nature reserves through rewilding projects, turning once-manicured landscapes into biodiverse public spaces.
  • Rewilding offers an alternative to commercial development, preserving green space and supporting climate resilience. Some golf courses also adopt hybrid approaches, integrating naturalized areas while remaining operational.
  • These initiatives address the environmental costs of traditional golf course maintenance—such as excessive water use, chemical pollution, and habitat loss—while offering communities new recreational and educational opportunities.
