Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Brazil’s Abrolhos Seascape, home to the South Atlantic’s largest coral reef and over 500 marine species, needs urgent protection as less than 2% of its 46,000 square kilometers is currently fully protected from threats like illegal fishing and potential deep-sea mining.
📈 One key stat: Only 35% of the most biodiverse areas in the Abrolhos Seascape are currently protected, highlighting the critical conservation gap for this marine treasure that harbors 134 threatened species.
💬 One key quote: “The solutions aren’t simple, but they are necessary because we are losing this race,” Guilherme Fraga Dutra, the study’s lead author, said.

1️⃣ The big picture: The Abrolhos Seascape off Brazil’s coast represents one of the South Atlantic’s richest marine ecosystems, spanning 893,000 square kilometers of coral reefs, seamount chains, and oceanic islands. A recent study identified critical biodiversity hotspots in the region, with particular concern for the Abrolhos Bank – home to the largest coral reef in the South Atlantic and Brazil’s primary humpback whale breeding ground. Despite its ecological significance, less than 2% of the bank receives full protection, leaving vital ecosystems like rhodolith beds vulnerable to illegal fishing and potential deep-sea mining. Scientists have flagged four key habitat types needing urgent conservation action, with 96% of the world’s largest rhodolith aggregation currently unprotected.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Scientists and conservationists have sparked global recognition for this unique marine treasure, with Mission Blue recently designating Abrolhos as a Hope Spot – acknowledging its extraordinary biodiversity. This designation strengthens ongoing efforts to expand protective measures in the region. The study provides precise mapping of biodiversity hotspots, offering a scientific foundation for targeted conservation actions. Brazil’s environment minister has already taken public stands against oil exploration in the area, preventing potential environmental damage. This research also establishes a robust methodology that can be applied to identify and protect other vulnerable marine ecosystems along Brazil’s coast.

3️⃣ What’s next: Researchers advocate for expanding the Abrolhos National Marine Park and implementing existing protected areas more effectively. The study calls for additional scientific research, updated government biodiversity databases, and educational programs about this natural heritage. Brazil must work toward meeting its commitment to protect 30% of marine ecosystems by 2030 under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
