Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: California’s native seed collection efforts help restore natural habitats for endangered species and protect the state’s biodiversity through an innovative large-scale farming approach that produces over 30,000 pounds of seeds annually.
📈 One key stat: Heritage Growers farm produces over 30,000 pounds of native seeds each year and maintains more than 200 native plant varieties, enabling landscape restoration at an unprecedented scale.
💬 One key quote: “What we do is bigger than just the day that we live. The species that we collect are going to make impacts on the restoration industry for decades to come,” said Haleigh Holgate, seed collection manager.

1️⃣ The big picture: California faces an urgent challenge to restore its degraded landscapes and protect biodiversity, with three-quarters of native vegetation altered in the last 200 years. To meet ambitious conservation goals of protecting 30% of land by 2030, the state needs massive quantities of native seeds. Heritage Growers, a non-profit organization, works to bridge this gap by collecting wild seeds and amplifying them through farming. Their innovative approach involves careful collection of seeds from natural areas, followed by cultivation at their 2,088-acre farm to produce seeds at scale. The seeds support critical restoration projects across the state, from river corridors to new state parks.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This large-scale native seed production enables faster and more effective restoration of California’s natural landscapes. The restored habitats provide essential support for endangered species and help fight climate change through nature-based solutions. The work also benefits Indigenous communities by restoring culturally significant plants and creating spaces for traditional practices. By producing seeds at scale, these efforts make restoration projects more feasible and help preserve California’s unique biodiversity for future generations.

3️⃣ What’s next: Heritage Growers plans to continue expanding their seed collection and amplification efforts across their 35 collection sites. The organization aims to increase production beyond their current 30,000 pounds of seeds annually to meet growing demand. Their long-term planning approach, which can take 5+ years from collection to restoration, will help support California’s ambitious conservation goals. The team will maintain their commitment to ethical harvesting practices while scaling up operations.
