Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Monday 👋

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • Supporting maternal mental health 🤱
  • California could welcome back grizzly bears 🐻
  • The new technology that makes solar panels up to 1,000 times more efficient 🌞

🤱 Event of the Month: Maternal Mental Health Month

👉 Did you know that May is Maternal Mental Health Month? This event was founded to emphasize the need for better recognition and treatment of mental health issues during pregnancy and after childbirth.

1️⃣ The big picture: Maternal Mental Health Month was first recognized in 2016, building on earlier efforts by advocacy groups and healthcare organizations to highlight the importance of mental health care for mothers. The initiative sought to address postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders that affect up to 20% of women globally each year. Over the years, Maternal Mental Health Month, along with Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week and World Maternal Mental Health Day, has gained traction as healthcare providers, policymakers, and advocates around the world recognize the need for comprehensive maternal mental health services.

2️⃣ Why is this important: Up to 75% of women experiencing mental health challenges during the perinatal period go undiagnosed or untreated, leaving many mothers to suffer in silence. Without proper intervention, maternal mental health conditions can have lasting effects on both the mother and her child. For example, mothers might have less positive interactions with their newborns and experience breastfeeding complications, while children might experience cognitive, behavioral, or emotional delays. Furthermore, this lack of support can lead to increased risks for suicide and substance abuse which are the leading causes of death among new mothers.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Maternal Mental Health Month by raising awareness of mental health issues in new mothers on your social media pages. You can also support the cause by donating to organizations that provide therapy, counseling, and resources for mothers experiencing mental health disorders or participating in webinars, workshops, or support groups that raise awareness of maternal mental health issues like post-natal depression and anxiety.

Below are our favorite charities that are especially relevant for this awareness event:

📢 Three Good News

🐻 California Could Welcome Back Grizzly Bears After Century-Long Absence:

  • 📰 The quick summary: California’s feasibility study shows grizzly bears could return to the state with up to 1,000 animals potentially thriving in three major habitat regions, restoring an iconic native species to its historical range.
  • 📈 One key stat: California could support more than 1,000 grizzlies in three distinct regions, significantly expanding the current population of fewer than 2,000 bears in the contiguous US.
  • 💬 One key quote: “The extinction of grizzlies in California had not been inevitable by any means, and their recovery is probably not impossible either, even though that’s the story people have been kind of telling for 100 years.”

🌞 New Crystal Technology Makes Solar Panels 1,000 Times More Efficient:

  • 📰 The quick summary: Scientists have created ultra-thin layered crystal materials that boost solar panel efficiency up to 1,000 times, potentially revolutionizing renewable energy by allowing smaller panels to generate significantly more electricity.
  • 📈 One key stat: The new crystal structure generates 1,000 times stronger current flow compared to conventional materials, despite using nearly two-thirds less of the main photoelectric component.
  • 💬 One key quote: “The interaction between the lattice layers appears to lead to a much higher permittivity – in other words, the electrons are able to flow much more easily due to the excitation by the light photons,” explained Dr. Akash Bhatnagar.

🇪🇸 How Spain’s New Carbon Capture Partnership to Remove 900,000 Tons of CO2 Yearly:

  • 📰 The quick summary: Enagás and Calcinor have formed a strategic partnership to capture up to 900,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, creating a complete value chain from industrial capture to transport and storage that helps decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors.
  • 📈 One key stat: The partnership aims to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide by 900,000 metric tons annually, equal to removing emissions from about 195,000 cars from the road each year.
  • 💬 One key quote: “This agreement with Calcinor, a key player in the industrial use of minerals, marks a major step in decarbonising a hard-to-abate sector,” said Jesús Saldaña, Enagás’ General Director of Business Development and Affiliates.

This week’s discussion topic: How can we reduce food waste in our daily lives?

  • What are some creative ways you’ve learned to use or repurpose what you already own instead of buying new?
  • How has shifting your mindset toward “using what you have” made an impact on your daily life?
  • Are there any tips or examples you’d share with someone looking to start valuing what they already own more?

I’d love to hear your stories and tips, so we can inspire each other to live more thoughtfully and waste less!
