Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: China’s overseas investments have shifted dramatically toward renewable energy, with nearly 70% of foreign power investments now going to solar and wind projects rather than fossil fuels, accelerating the global energy transition.
📈 One key stat: 68% of China’s overseas energy finance now goes to green energy projects, marking the first time renewables have surpassed fossil fuels in the country’s foreign investment portfolio.
💬 One key quote: “China’s global energy financing is increasingly aligned with the green transition, but coal may continue to represent a significant part of China’s overseas power portfolio as previously announced projects continue to come online.”

1️⃣ The big picture: For the first time since Beijing began investing in overseas power projects in the early 2000s, China’s foreign investments have shifted predominantly toward renewable energy. According to new analysis from Boston University’s Global Development Policy Center, nearly 70% of China’s overseas power investments from 2022-2023 went to solar and wind projects instead of fossil fuels. This shift follows Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s 2021 pledge to stop financing new coal-fired power plants abroad and increase support for renewable projects in developing countries. The transition highlights China’s growing dominance in green energy technologies and the critical mineral supply chains that support them.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The pivot away from coal toward renewable energy marks a significant turning point in global energy finance from the world’s largest investor in overseas power projects. No new coal-fired power plants have been financed by China since 2021, demonstrating real follow-through on the country’s climate commitments. This shift has created new opportunities for developing nations to access financing for clean energy infrastructure, potentially helping close the investment gap in the global energy transition. By redirecting capital toward solar and wind projects, China is helping accelerate decarbonization efforts worldwide and leverage its manufacturing strength in renewable technologies to mutual benefit.

3️⃣ What’s next: Initiatives like the Green Investment and Finance Partnership, announced at the 2023 Belt and Road Forum, may further advance sustainable development in partner countries. Greater investment scale will be needed, as current renewable financing remains relatively small at just three gigawatts in 2022-2023. Monitoring the completion of previously announced coal plants will remain crucial, as these projects will continue emitting carbon dioxide for decades.
