Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: International Gibbon Day brings attention to these highly arboreal ‘lesser apes’ with five species critically endangered and 14 endangered, while conservation projects in Java and Vietnam show promising population increases.
📈 One key stat: Of the 20 known gibbon species worldwide, 19 are either critically endangered or endangered on the IUCN Red List, highlighting the urgent conservation needs of these vital seed dispersers.
💬 One key quote: “Our motivation as young people is that future generations will not just hear stories about the gibbons, they’ll be able to see them from their backyards if they want,” said Rohim, a Mendolo farmer.

1️⃣ The big picture: International Gibbon Day spotlights the often overlooked ‘lesser apes‘ that inhabit the canopy of tropical forests across South and Southeast Asia. These highly arboreal primates live in small family groups and communicate through musical, haunting songs while serving as key seed dispersers. Despite their ecological importance, gibbons face severe threats with 19 of the 20 known species listed as endangered or critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. All gibbon species are targeted by wildlife traffickers, further threatening their survival in the wild.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Conservation efforts for gibbons are showing promising results in some regions. In Java, a local NGO named SwaraOwa works with farmers to cultivate native trees and build forest corridors, helping to increase the Javan gibbon population from 800 to 1,000 individuals over the past decade. In northern Vietnam, conservationists spotted two baby Cao-vit gibbons, one of the world’s rarest apes, providing hope for this critically endangered species that gives birth only once every four years. These success stories demonstrate that targeted conservation initiatives can effectively protect gibbon populations and their forest habitats.

3️⃣ What’s next: Addressing the illegal wildlife trade remains critical for gibbon conservation, as trafficking has increased, particularly for species like the siamang. Connecting fragmented forest habitats through corridor projects needs expansion to allow isolated gibbon populations to interact. Greater public awareness about these lesser-known primates can help generate more support for conservation efforts.
