DAY 3
You’ve Backed One Indigenous Person to Protect the Rainforest
Together with Cool Earth
🤝
What is your positive impact today?
Today, you’ve provided basic income for one day to one Indigenous person to help protect the rainforest. Indigenous peoples and local communities have always protected the rainforest, nurtured it, and kept it healthy for thousands and thousands of years simply by living there. And today, you backed one Indigenous person who lives in the rainforest and is essential in fighting the climate crisis. Their climate knowledge and rich history of living in rainforests ensure the best carbon sinks on earth can stay that way.
💚
Why is your impact important?
More than half of Earth’s rainforests have already been lost due to us humans. And to be frank, we don’t know how to protect rainforests, but people in rainforests do. When rainforest communities are backed directly with cash, up to three times more rainforest is protected. Supporting local communities is a cost-effective and potent way to support the rainforest and fight the climate crisis.
⚒️
How are we achieving your impact together?
Our impactful partner for today is Cool Earth. They work with people living in remote rainforests, where infrastructure can be minimal and conditions are vastly different from village to village. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to rainforest protection, but if there’s one thing that always provides superior results: listening to the Indigenous peoples. And when cash is paired with their traditional knowledge, it funds radical solutions – be it beehives, solar lights, or satellite data – these all protect rainforests.
More About Cool Earth
Cool Earth was founded in 2007 to help fund Indigenous communities to protect endangered rainforests in order to combat the climate crisis and protect ecosystems. They give basic income directly to rainforest communities, to fund projects that create choice, tackle the root causes of deforestation, and protect vital carbon sinks. Their mission is to back people, protect the rainforest, and fight the climate crisis.
The answer is simple. If we lose the world’s forests, we lose the fight against climate change. Rainforests are our Earth’s greatest utility – our planet’s lungs, thermostat, and air-conditioning system.
