Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we wonโ€™t receive any commission but weโ€™ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Monday ๐Ÿ‘‹

๐Ÿ  Event of the Week: Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

๐Ÿ‘‰ Did you know that this week (November 18-26) is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week? This event was founded to draw attention to the issues surrounding hunger and homelessness, as well as to inspire community action.

1๏ธโƒฃ The big picture: Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week was founded in 1975 at Villanova University and itโ€™s now sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. During this week, participating groups hold a series of service, educational, fundraising, and advocacy events to eventually end hunger and homelessness around the world. Today, events are held at over 700 locations with millions of dollars being raised for local service providers.

2๏ธโƒฃ Why is this important: Around the world, 2.83 billion people (roughly 35% of the human population) canโ€™t afford a healthy, nutritious diet and one in 11 people go to bed hungry every night. Unfortunately, 85% of people facing hunger crises live in conflict-affected countries with the threat of environmental disasters also rising due to climate change, contributing further to global hunger. In terms of homelessness, there are at least 150 million people living without a place to call home, with 1.6 billion people lacking adequate housing.

3๏ธโƒฃ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week by hosting or attending an awareness event, volunteering with an organization focused on ending homelessness and hunger, or spreading the word on social media using hashtags such as #HHWeek or #TimeForChange.

You can also consider donating to one or more charities that are working to end homelessness and ensuring that every person has access to nutritious meals:

If you are looking for more inspiration, you can find a wider range of charitable causes to support in our charity support blog.

๐Ÿ“ข Three Good News

๐Ÿป Brewery giant produces its first beer using solely regeneratively grown barley:

  • Carlsberg, one of the worldโ€™s most popular and best-known brewers, has announced a new collaboration with DLG and Viking Malt to source Danish malt barley, cultivated according to regenerative principles.ย
  • Regenerative agriculture is an approach to farming that aims to restore soil health, improve water cycles, and enhance biodiversity, while maintaining good yields.
  • A portion of this new harvest will be used to create a special edition Carlsberg beer brewed with 100% regeneratively grown barley, while the rest will be incorporated into their flagship Carlsberg Pilsner.ย

๐Ÿš˜ Paris introduces car-free zones to reduce air pollution:

  • This month, Paris officials introduced a car ban in the top four central districts of the French Capital, covering an area of approximately 5.5sq miles.
  • The air in Paris is currently ranked as moderately polluted with a fine particulate matter of 10.5 ฮผg/m3. To protect health, the World Health Organization recommends a maximum level of 5 ฮผg/m3 for long-term exposure.
  • Around 40 signs appeared overnight in Paris indicating the entrance to a new limited traffic zone (ZTL) put in place by the city council. Only certain vehicles, such as buses, taxis, and emergency vehicles will be allowed to drive through the area.ย

๐Ÿชซ Researchers find a highly efficient way to recycle batteries – with citric acid:

  • A research paper published in the journal Angewandte Chemie, details a simple, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly way to recycle depleted lithium-ion batteries using nothing more than citric acid.ย
  • From electric vehicles and smartphones to being an integral component in renewable energy sources, lithium-ion batteries are used everywhere in our daily lives. However, they have a limited lifespan which results in large numbers of these batteries having to be disposed of, resulting in the release of dangerous chemicals and heavy metals.
  • According to the study, small amounts of citric acid can break up the lithium-oxygen bonds, leaching out 99% of the lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese metals that are contained in NCM batteries.
