Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Youth groups in Ethiopia are successfully restoring the ecosystem of Abijata-Shalla National Park, reversing decades of environmental damage and bringing back wildlife while creating sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
📈 One key stat: After five years of restoration work, greater kudu numbers in the park have increased from 50 individuals in 2018 to more than 200 today, demonstrating the remarkable recovery of wildlife populations.
💬 One key quote: “The land is healing, and so are we,” says Hamid Belo, chairman of the Mekane Fike Forest Conservation Association.

1️⃣ The big picture: Ethiopian youth groups have launched a remarkable environmental comeback in the Abijata-Shalla National Park, a critical 887-square-kilometer biodiversity hotspot in the Rift Valley. Once covered in acacia woodlands, the region suffered severe degradation from deforestation, overgrazing, pollution, and water diversion to a soda ash factory. Local youth associations, trained by Wetlands International, are implementing soil and water conservation techniques like building barriers in gullies and managing water flow to restore the degraded ecosystem. Their efforts combine traditional knowledge with scientific approaches, focusing on natural regeneration while creating sustainable livelihoods for participants.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The restoration project is already showing impressive ecological results, with increased forest cover, reduced soil erosion, and rising water levels in Lake Abijata. Fish species absent for 30 years have returned to the lakes, while migratory birds like flamingos are gradually repopulating the area. The initiative has created new sustainable income opportunities for local youth through beekeeping, livestock fattening, and tourism. Beyond environmental recovery, the project has fostered unprecedented cooperation between previously competing stakeholders—government agencies, local communities, and various institutions now work together toward shared goals. The restoration efforts integrate local bylaws and traditional governance systems, building lasting community ownership that ensures protection will continue after the project ends.

3️⃣ What’s next: Project managers are focused on enforcing conservation policies and securing long-term sustainability of the restored areas. Local government authorities have demonstrated strong commitment to supporting and expanding the restoration work. The integration of Indigenous knowledge and traditional rules will be essential to ensure community members continue protecting the land long after the formal project concludes.
