Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Europe’s first full-scale cement carbon capture and storage facility begins execution phase at Heidelberg Materials’ Padeswood plant in Wales, enabling the capture of 800,000 tons of CO2 annually once operational in 2029.
📈 One key stat: The Padeswood CCS facility will capture around 800,000 tons of CO2 per year, making a significant contribution to decarbonizing one of the hardest-to-abate industrial sectors.
💬 One key quote: “The facility will play a leading role in decarbonizing one of the most challenging industrial sectors,” said Tatsuto Nagayasu, MHI’s Senior Vice President for CCUS.

1️⃣ The big picture: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Worley have officially launched the execution phase of Europe’s first full-scale carbon capture and storage facility for cement production. Located at Heidelberg Materials’ Padeswood works in North Wales, the project will implement MHI’s Advanced KM CDR Process technology to capture CO2 from cement kiln operations. This milestone follows Heidelberg Materials’ final investment decision made in September 2025 in partnership with the UK Government under its CCUS cluster sequencing program. The captured carbon will be transported via pipeline and permanently stored in depleted gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay as part of the HyNet North West cluster.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This groundbreaking project tackles one of the hardest-to-abate sectors in the global fight against climate change, as cement production accounts for approximately 8% of global CO2 emissions. When operational, the Padeswood facility will create 50 permanent jobs while safeguarding over 200 existing roles, plus supporting up to 500 construction jobs during development. The project strengthens the UK’s emerging carbon management infrastructure and enables the domestic construction industry to access low-carbon cement. By demonstrating the technical and commercial viability of cement CCS at scale, the project creates a blueprint that can be replicated worldwide to address industrial emissions.

3️⃣ What’s next: MHI will supply engineering and procurement for the CO2 capture plant, including compressors and associated equipment. Worley will manage engineering, procurement, and construction for the balance of plant components. Once completed, the facility is expected to begin operations in 2029, positioning Padeswood to become one of the world’s first large-scale decarbonized cement plants.
