Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: The world’s first commercial gas engine capable of running on a 30% hydrogen and natural gas blend is now available for order, giving power plant operators a practical way to cut carbon emissions without replacing existing infrastructure.
📈 One key stat: After eleven months of testing at Kawasaki’s Kobe Works, an 8-megawatt engine ran stably on up to 30% hydrogen by volume, proving the technology is reliable enough to bring to market with a full warranty.
💬 One key quote: “Liquid hydrogen is a vital key to realizing a sustainable energy society,” said Kei Nomura, who leads the Hydrogen Strategy Division at Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

1️⃣ The big picture: Kawasaki Heavy Industries has officially moved its hydrogen co-firing engine from a pilot project to a commercial product, making it the first large gas engine on the market capable of running on a blend of up to 30% hydrogen by volume. Built on the existing KG Series platform, which has logged more than 240 orders since 2011, the engine can also operate on pure natural gas and gradually take on a higher hydrogen share as fuel supplies grow. Critically, existing KG Series engines can be upgraded to the new specification with limited changes, meaning older assets do not become obsolete overnight. Safety features such as hydrogen leak detectors, enclosed fuel areas, and nitrogen purge systems address the unique handling challenges that hydrogen presents. Alongside this, Kawasaki is also advancing hydrogen-powered marine engines and building what it describes as the world’s first commercial-scale liquefied hydrogen import terminal in Japan.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Power plant operators can now buy a fully warranted, commercially available engine that burns less fossil fuel without needing to tear out pipelines or rebuild their facilities from scratch. Existing engines in the field can be retrofitted rather than replaced, protecting prior investments and accelerating the timeline for reducing emissions across industrial sites. The same technology is already being adapted for cargo ships, opening a pathway to lower emissions in one of the hardest-to-decarbonize sectors in global trade. A new large-scale liquefied hydrogen terminal planned for Kawasaki City will eventually anchor a supply chain capable of feeding these engines with imported clean hydrogen. Taken together, these developments show that the energy transition can proceed incrementally, letting industries reduce their carbon footprint step by step as hydrogen infrastructure catches up.

3️⃣ What’s next: A low-speed two-stroke marine engine suited for large container ships is scheduled to begin operation in spring 2026, expanding hydrogen co-firing to ocean freight. Construction of the Kawasaki LH2 Terminal in Ogishima is underway, with commercial operations planned around fiscal year 2030. As the liquefied hydrogen supply chain matures, operators using the new engine can progressively raise the hydrogen blend above the current 30% ceiling.
