Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Monday 👋

☀️ Event of the Month: Summer Sun Safety Month

👉 Did you know that August is Summer Sun Safety Month? During this month, organizations nationwide encourage people to find the best ways to protect their skin from the burning summer sun, through community outreach, educational campaigns, and online awareness posts.

1️⃣ The big picture: Summer Sun Safety Month is observed in August, when people of all ages are more likely to spend time outdoors and, while enjoying the sun, be exposed to dangerous levels of solar radiation. The origins of Summer Sun Safety Month are unknown, but its creation is most probably based on a deeper awareness of the general public in regards to the dangers of too much sun exposure and the numerous studies linking dangerous solar radiation to skin cancer. Today, Summer Sun Safety Month is an opportunity to encourage annual dermatological check-ups for mole analysis and is a great way to share valuable and practical advice on skin protection with as many people as possible, through online and in-person initiatives.

2️⃣ Why is this important: Sunlight fortifies your immune system, reduces stress, and is essential for your body to produce vitamin D. Unfortunately, excessive exposure to ultraviolet light, especially UVB, may give skin cancer, as 80% of skin cancers are caused by overexposure to this radiation. Moreover, having 5 or more sunburns doubles the risk for melanoma. The sun can also harm your eyes, raising the risk of eye cancer, cataracts, and ocular sunburn. Furthermore, prolonged stays in the sun can increase your body’s temperature and cause heat exhaustion or even heatstroke, putting your life at risk.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Summer Sun Safety Month by actively protecting yourself from the sun. You can also spread the word on the importance of this protection and the risks of sun overexposure on social media, using hashtags such as #SummerSunSafetyMonth and #SunSafety.

If you are looking for additional inspiration, you can find a wide range of charitable causes to support in our charity support blog.

📢 Three Good News

🍌 Banana waste fiber outperforms jute and sisal:

  • Every time a banana plant produces its single bunch of fruit, farmers cut the whole plant to the ground and leave the massive pseudostem to rot in the mud. That leftover stem, which outweighs the fruit itself, turns out to contain fiber stronger than jute and sisal, two of the most widely traded natural fibers in the world
  • Millions of tons of this material are generated every year across commercial banana farms globally, yet almost all of it currently goes to waste.
  • Brazilian researchers measured banana pseudostem fiber at around 570 megapascals, compared to 249 for jute and 350 for sisal, with a higher cellulose crystallinity explaining the difference.

🐟 How First Nations are bringing salmon back after 85 years:

🇧🇷 Brazil court orders indigenous land return after decades of atrocities:

  • A Brazilian federal court has ruled that the government must formally recognize the ancestral territory of the Kajkwakratxi-Tapayuna Indigenous people in the state of Mato Grosso, giving authorities 24 months to complete the process.
  • Federal Judge Pablo Kipper Aguilar issued the ruling on June 11th, citing decades of documented violence against the community, including poisoning attacks in the 1950s and 1960s, a government-linked influenza outbreak in 1969, and a forced removal that left survivors transported in livestock trucks.
  •  In addition to land recognition, the ruling orders a formal public apology and $2 million in collective moral damages
