Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Ethnologist Martín von Hildebrand received the prestigious Thomas E. Lovejoy Prize for securing 26 million hectares of Indigenous territory in the Colombian Amazon, creating one of the world’s largest community-led conservation systems.
📈 One key stat: Von Hildebrand helped secure approximately 26 million hectares of Indigenous territory in Colombia, establishing one of the world’s largest and most effective community-led conservation systems.
💬 One key quote: “I have spent 50 years with the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon, speaking about land, laws, and their own governments or intercultural governments. I never fully understood their culture, nor did they mine, but we built trust, held hands, walked together and changed the history of the region.”

1️⃣ The big picture: Martín von Hildebrand has been announced as the second recipient of the Thomas E. Lovejoy Prize during New York’s climate week on September 23rd, 2025. The ethnologist and anthropologist earned this recognition for his five decades of work with Indigenous communities in the Colombian Amazon, helping them secure rights and protect their forest. His efforts culminated in securing approximately 26 million hectares of Indigenous territory and establishing the Gaia Amazonas Foundation in 1990. Von Hildebrand’s work embodies the spirit of the late Thomas Lovejoy, known as the “godfather of biodiversity” and a passionate advocate for Amazon conservation.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Indigenous communities now control and protect over 26 million hectares of Amazon forest thanks to von Hildebrand’s decades of dedication. His pioneering approach recognizes that Indigenous peoples, as original inhabitants, are the most knowledgeable and effective stewards of their land. The Andes-Amazon-Atlantic Corridor initiative he leads aims to establish the world’s largest ecological corridor spanning 135 million hectares. Indigenous-governed territories protect more than 27% of the Amazon, representing one of our most effective tools for biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. This model of Indigenous-led conservation offers a powerful alternative to exploitative approaches that have failed to protect critical ecosystems.

3️⃣ What’s next: The Andes-Amazon-Atlantic Corridor initiative will continue working toward connecting vast regions of the Amazon with ecosystems in the Andes and Atlantic Ocean. Von Hildebrand’s Gaia Amazonas Foundation will keep supporting Indigenous-led conservation efforts throughout the region. The recognition from the Lovejoy Prize may help attract additional resources and attention to expand these successful conservation models.
