Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

In many developed nations, materialism, and consumerism trends have become the norm. Our consumption choices come at a huge cost to the environment and humanity, contributing to climate change, landfill waste, pollution, and unprecedented levels of CO2 emissions. International Minimalism Day reminds us to slow down and consume only what is necessary to protect our wallet and planet. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s International Minimalism Day?

👉 Official Name: International Minimalism Day
💚 Cause: Celebrate minimalism as a lifestyle and encourage people to adopt it
📅 Next Date: January 1, 2026
🌐 Official Website: https://minimalism.community/international-minimalism-day
🐦 Hashtags: #InternationalMinimalismDay, #BecomeAMinimalist, #TakeTheMinimalistChallenge

Keep reading to find out all the important information about International Minimalism Day at a glance: its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About International Minimalism Day at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: International Minimalism Day is celebrated at the very beginning of each year – January 1 – to inspire and embolden people to switch to a (more) minimalist lifestyle for the following year. It has the motto “Minimalism is for everyone” and fights to draw attention to minimalism as a lifestyle. People are encouraged to explore ways to minimize their consumption levels, share how they’ve already changed their habits, and participate in educational events. Many minimalist challenges also start on this day and continue throughout January.

2️⃣ Why it is important: As of 2023, humanity is consuming resources at a rate 1.75 times faster than how the Earth can regenerate them. The production and use of household goods and services are responsible for 60% of global CO2 emissions. For example, an American house accumulates around 300,000 objects, with more money spent yearly on shoes, jewelry, and clothes than on higher education. We buy five times more clothes than we did in the 1980s while 40% of food in the US goes uneaten. What’s more, accumulating unused products in our homes leads to stress and worry about storing them along with less financial resources and savings.

3️⃣ How you can get involved: You can observe International Minimalism Day by taking up a minimalism challenge, decluttering, using only the resources you need, and spreading awareness:

  1. Take up a challenge: The start of the year is a great time to begin a month-long minimalist challenge that you can stick to (partially at least) for the following year. You can also play the 30-day Minimalism Game with a loved one.
  2. Declutter your home: You don’t have to go with a full challenge to have a taste of minimalism. You can start by simply decluttering your wardrobe or other spaces of unnecessary objects at your own pace and see how it feels.
  3. Use less: Minimalism is not only about physical objects. It is also about how wasteful we might be with our energy, water, or food consumption. You can reflect on ways to decrease your use of these in your life. You can even find ways to become a minimalist in how you interact with information (especially social media) and your daily schedule.
  4. Inspire others: Share insights about minimalism and give an online shout-out to this important awareness event on social media to help more people become aware of ways to decrease consumption.

A Brief History of International Minimalism Day

When was this event established: International Minimalism Day was founded in 2023 by German minimalism coach and activist Jasmin Mittag, founder of the website Minimalism Community. She wanted to unite minimalists worldwide and demand a holistic approach to minimalism that encourages focus on the essentials. The inaugural event’s theme was “conscious consumption” with the call “Stop consuming, start living.”

How has it developed since then: In 2024, the second International Minimalism Day focused on fulfilling our basic needs with the call “Let’s focus on essentials.” Mittag explained then that her desire to continue these awareness events every year came from the realization that “the world we live in has evolved into an unnatural place where we are victims of overconsumption. We want to send a friendly reminder that we should celebrate our basic needs and urgently put a stop to excessive consumption.”

3 Interesting Facts About International Minimalism Day

  1. American overconsumption: A study found the sobering fact that if everyone lived like the average American, we would need five Earths to sustain our lifestyle. This shows the unsustainability of our current consumption patterns and highlights environmental impacts and social inequalities. Minimalism can be a way for developed nations to support the planet and foreign communities.
  2. Personal benefits: Decluttering your home positively impacts your mental health. Owning less leads to a happier and more meaningful life while letting go of unnecessary things clears your physical and mental space. In addition, minimizing consumption creates a life focused on experiences and relationships rather than possessions
  3. Anti-consumption days: Many other events seek to minimize consumption. For example, we have the International Day of Zero Waste, which emphasizes the need for action in the fashion and textile sector to advance circular solutions. There is also the Buy Nothing Day and National Simplicity Day to help us focus on more natural, mindful living.
