When was this event established: May was officially proclaimed as Jewish American Heritage Month by President George W. Bush on April 20, 2006. This followed efforts by the Jewish Museum of Florida and local leaders, with support from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Sen. Arlen Specter, to promote Jewish culture. Congress unanimously passed resolutions in 2005 and 2006, recognizing over 350 years of Jewish contributions to American culture.
How has it developed since then: Since its inception, Jewish American Heritage Month has grown in prominence, with communities, museums, and cultural institutions across the country hosting events and educational programs to honor Jewish American heritage.
