Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: New York City’s Broadway Malls are being transformed with native plants, creating vital green corridors that have already attracted over 100 species of wildlife in the heart of Manhattan.
📈 One key stat: The Broadway Malls comprise more than 4 hectares (10 acres) of green space stretching 8 kilometers through Manhattan, providing crucial habitat for 25 million migrating birds annually.
💬 One key quote: “If birds are finding these habitats useful, as our early data suggests, we hope our findings will help support further restoration of the Malls and inspire similar efforts in New York City and beyond,” Partridge said.

1️⃣ The big picture: A series of small parks known as the Broadway Malls are being rewilded in the heart of Manhattan, transforming once-neglected medians into thriving ecosystems. Originally established in the 1850s alongside Central Park, these green spaces fell into disrepair by the 1960s before being revitalized with non-native plants in the 1980s. Now, the Broadway Mall Association is replacing these ornamental species with native plants like goldenrod, columbine, and aster to boost biodiversity. The rewilding effort spans 83 mall segments covering 10 acres along a 5-mile stretch, creating a vital green corridor in America’s most densely populated city.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The transformation is already yielding impressive ecological benefits, with citizen scientists documenting over 100 species of plants and animals in just a single mall section. Native plantings have attracted numerous pollinators including bees, moths, and butterflies, establishing functioning ecosystems where predator-prey relationships naturally occur. Birds particularly benefit, as 17 species including Baltimore orioles and blackpoll warblers now use these spaces during migration along the Atlantic Flyway. These pocket habitats fill critical gaps in urban green space, demonstrating how even small areas in dense cities can support significant biodiversity when properly restored.

3️⃣ What’s next: The Broadway Mall Association plans to continue transforming the remaining mall sections with native plants. Their successful model could inspire similar urban rewilding efforts throughout New York City and beyond. Continued citizen science monitoring will help track biodiversity gains and measure the project’s long-term ecological impact.
