💚 Marking Historical Achievements 🖤
Affiliate Disclosure
Hey fellow impactful ninja ?
You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.
Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.
But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.
Why do we add these product links?
First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.
And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.
What do these affiliate links mean for you?
First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.
And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.
What do these affiliate links mean for us?
When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).
And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.
What does this mean for me personally?
You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.
Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.
Stay impactful,
Happy Monday 👋
Did you know that more than 12.5 million black men, women, and children were captured and forced into the Transatlantic Slave Trade?
Since then, Black trailblazers, such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. have fought tirelessly to ensure equal rights for all Black people and end discrimination.
So, today, I’d like to share an awareness event with you that celebrates the achievements of Black activists and continues the fight for true equality among different races.

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:
- Celebrating the Black community 🖤
- A new plant-based alternative to plastic foams 🧑🔬

🖤 Event of the Month: Black History Month
👉 Did you know that February is Black History Month? This event was founded to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans throughout history and continue the campaign for equality.
1️⃣ The big picture: Since 1976, every US President has designated February as Black History Month, also known as African American History Month. This event grew out of Negro History Week founded by noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. He chose February because this month already contained the birthdays of both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln whose historic achievements were already celebrated by African Americans. Other countries such as Canada and the UK also devote a month to celebrating Black history. Since 1976, there has been a different theme to this awareness event every year, with the 2025 theme being “African Americans and Labor”.
2️⃣ Why is this important: Black communities have historically been oppressed. For example, from 1526 to 1867, around 12.5 million Black men, women, and children were captured and forced into the slave trade. Over the years, numerous Black individuals have fought against this discrimination to improve the lives of Black communities around the world which deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated. For instance, in 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man in Montgomery. Her defiance prompted a year-long bus boycott. Furthermore, in 1963, more than 1,000 Black school children marched through Birmingham, Alabama, in a demonstration against segregation.
3️⃣ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Black History Month by educating yourself and your loved ones on the atrocities throughout history that negatively affected Black communities. In addition, you can support a local Black-run business by fundraising or use social media to spread awareness of the discrimination still faced by Black people by using hashtags such as #BlackHistoryMonth, #BlackLivesMatter, and #BlackExcellence.

📢 Three Good News
🧑🔬 Scientists discover a plant-based substitute to plastic foams:
- Scientists at Washington State University have developed an environmentally friendly preparation of planet material, made from pine, that could serve as an alternative to the petroleum-based chemicals found in polyurethane foams.
- The global market for polyurethane totaled more than $75 billion in 2022 alone. The material is commonly found in a range of products from kitchen sponges to packaging, and takes centuries to break down.
- To create the plant material, scientists used a mild environmentally-friendly solvent to separate lignin from pine. On testing, they found that the high-quality lignin was stable and performed as well mechanically as traditional foams.
🏡 Revolutionary Swiss data center uses recycled energy to heat homes in Geneva:
- A Swizz data center, Geneva-based Infomaniak, has been recovering 100% of the electricity it uses since November 2024. This recycled power will be able to fuel the centralized heating network in the Canton of Geneva to heat 6,000 homes.
- Data centers can waste a significant amount of energy due to a range of factors such as outdated technology, inefficient cooling systems, and poorly managed server utilization.
- The center is currently operating at 25% of its potential capacity. It aims to reach full capacity by 2028, meaning that it will be able to save 3,600 tons of CO2 equivalent of natural gas every year.
🦇 Luring seed-dispersing bats to vulnerable areas could aid tropical reforestation:
- A recently published study details how chemical compounds derived from fruit-based essential oils can lure seed-dispersing bats to promote tropical regrowth in vulnerable habitats affected by deforestation.
- Fruit-eating bats play an important role in maintaining forest health by being seed dispersers. For decades, researchers have explored ways to harness this capacity as a reforestation tool. However, current methods have proven to be fairly costly.
- The new method has been proven to be cost-effective. However, the next step is long-term testing and further studies to determine the viability of scaling up this process.

🤝 Three More Important Awareness Events

- This day was created to encourage people to help birds through the rest of winter by leaving high-energy birdseed in their backyard feeder.
♀️ February 3, National Women Physicians Day:
- This day was created to honor the pioneering achievements and contributions of female physicians.
- It commemorates the birth of Elizabeth Blackwell, who, in 1849, became the first American woman to earn a medical degree.
