This technological marvel, known as the central solenoid, will play a pivotal role in creating and maintaining the plasma needed for fusion reactions. Eight American companies collaborated to construct the magnet’s support structure capable of withstanding the colossal forces generated during operation. ITER represents the world’s largest experimental fusion reactor, involving 35 countries in a global effort to replicate the sun’s fusion process on Earth and potentially revolutionize how we produce energy.
