Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: NASA’s SPHEREx telescope is mapping the entire sky in 102 infrared wavelengths and releasing data weekly to a public archive, enabling scientists to track water, organic compounds, and study cosmic origins.
📈 One key stat: SPHEREx captures the universe in 102 different infrared wavelengths, far more detailed than previous missions, providing an unprecedented view that helps identify specific molecules critical for understanding life’s building blocks.
💬 One key quote: “Because we’re looking at everything in the whole sky, almost every area of astronomy can be addressed by SPHEREx data,” said Rachel Akeson, the lead for the SPHEREx Science Data Center at IPAC.

1️⃣ The big picture: NASA’s newest space telescope, SPHEREx, launched in March with an ambitious mission to create a complete infrared map of the universe. Currently scanning from low-Earth orbit, it captures the cosmos in 102 different infrared wavelengths—far more detailed than previous sky surveys. This rich spectroscopic data allows scientists to identify specific molecules in space, track water and organic compounds across our galaxy, and study the universe’s expansion after the Big Bang. Following NASA’s open science philosophy, the mission makes all data publicly available within 60 days of collection, inviting professional astronomers and citizen scientists alike to explore the cosmos.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: SPHEREx marks a major advancement in our ability to understand the universe’s composition by detecting specific molecules in space. The mission’s open data policy democratizes astronomy, allowing researchers worldwide to access and analyze the universe in unprecedented detail without waiting years for proprietary periods to expire. This approach accelerates scientific discovery by enabling collaborative research across multiple disciplines. The high-resolution spectral data helps track frozen water and organic compounds—essential ingredients for life—throughout our galaxy, potentially answering fundamental questions about how life-supporting materials distribute across cosmic environments. SPHEREx also complements other NASA missions like the James Webb Space Telescope, creating a powerful network of observatories working together to reveal cosmic secrets.

3️⃣ What’s next: During its two-year prime mission, SPHEREx will survey the entire sky twice a year, creating four complete all-sky maps. After reaching the one-year mark, the team plans to release a full map of the sky at all 102 wavelengths. Scientists will combine SPHEREx data with observations from other telescopes like Webb, TESS, Euclid, and the upcoming Roman Space Telescope to enhance research across multiple astronomical fields.
