Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Czech scientists have bred new drought-resistant hop varieties, offering a path forward for the country’s iconic beer industry as climate change brings hotter, drier summers.
📈 One key stat: Only about 25% of Czech hop farms are irrigated, making the vast majority highly vulnerable to the increasingly irregular rainfall that climate change is bringing to the region.
💬 One key quote: “I see a very bright future for Czech hops,” said Dr Vladimir Nesvadba, the Hop Research Institute’s top breeder. “We have bred new drought-resistant varieties – Saaz Shine, Saaz Comfort, and others – that are performing well on hop farms and in Czech breweries.”

1️⃣ The big picture: Czechia drinks more beer per capita than any other country in the world, and its famous Saaz hops are a prized ingredient in breweries far beyond Europe, with around 80% of yields exported abroad. Rising temperatures and more frequent droughts have put serious pressure on Saaz crops in recent years, reducing both yields and the alpha acid levels that give hops their characteristic bitterness. A brutal drought in 2022 alone caused Czech hop imports to the US to drop by roughly half. Scientists at the Hop Research Institute in Czechia have responded by breeding new climate-resilient hop varieties, including Saaz Shine and Saaz Comfort, that perform well under heat and water stress. With 2026 shaping up to be the driest spring in Czechia since records began in 1961, the urgency behind this work has never been greater.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: New drought-resistant hop varieties bred in Czechia offer a concrete solution to one of climate change’s quieter but real threats to agriculture and food culture. Breweries around the world that depend on Saaz hops can look forward to more consistent alpha acid levels and aromas, making it easier to maintain the quality of their products year after year. Beyond saving an existing crop, these new varieties open up the possibility of growing hops in regions previously considered far too hot and dry, like Sardinia, potentially expanding the global hop industry to entirely new areas. Protecting hop cultivation also means safeguarding the livelihoods of farmers and the cultural heritage tied to centuries-old brewing traditions. At a time when climate change threatens many agricultural staples, having proven, field-tested varieties ready to deploy gives farmers and brewers a real tool to adapt rather than simply endure.

3️⃣ What’s next: Researchers will continue monitoring how new varieties like Saaz Shine and Saaz Comfort perform across different farms and brewing conditions. Agronomists in other hot, dry regions, including Sardinia, are already exploring how techniques developed in Czechia can help them establish local hop industries. Estimates for how the 2026 harvest will fare under the driest spring since 1961 are expected to become clearer in June or July.
