Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: A new Species Survival Commission launched by the IUCN aims to prevent extinctions by identifying and acting on threats before species reach crisis levels, shifting conservation from reactive to proactive.
📈 One key stat: Many species decline rapidly once tipping points are crossed, making early intervention far more cost-effective than emergency measures like captive breeding or reintroduction programs.
💬 One key quote: “Prevention is often more cost-effective than emergency responses,” as conservation practitioners emphasize, noting that early interventions can stabilize populations before they become so rare that costly captive breeding or reintroduction programs are required.

1️⃣ The big picture: Biodiversity loss continues to accelerate globally due to habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, and overexploitation, yet conservation efforts have historically focused on species already in crisis. To address this gap, the International Union for Conservation of Nature launched a new Species Survival Commission that brings together scientists, policymakers, and Indigenous knowledge holders to identify threats earlier. The commission broadens attention beyond well-studied mammals and birds to include invertebrates and microbes that are critical to ecosystem function. By integrating new indicators like ecosystem connectivity and climate exposure into threat assessments, it aims to give conservationists a fuller picture of which species are at risk. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to shift global conservation from a reactive model to one built on anticipation and prevention.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Catching threats early means populations can be stabilized before they require expensive last-resort interventions, saving both resources and species. Expanding assessments to include overlooked organisms like soil bacteria and fungi helps protect the ecosystem services that people depend on, including pollination, water purification, and carbon storage. Elevating Indigenous and local knowledge alongside conventional science leads to richer, more culturally informed strategies that are more likely to succeed on the ground. Early success stories already show that proactive habitat protection and community engagement can pull species back from the edge before a crisis hits. Strengthening scientific capacity in biodiversity-rich but resource-limited regions means more of the world gains the tools needed to act before it is too late.

3️⃣ What’s next: The commission plans to refine global threat assessment tools by adding indicators such as ecosystem connectivity, climate exposure, and species roles within food webs. Scientific capacity building programs, data sharing platforms, and technical partnerships will expand conservation expertise in regions where it is most needed. Making scientific findings accessible to policymakers and the public remains a key priority, so that awareness and action can grow at every level.
