Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Scientists have officially identified a tiny blue octopus discovered nearly 6,000 feet below the ocean surface near the Galápagos Islands as a new species, expanding our knowledge of deep-sea biodiversity.
📈 One key stat: Found at roughly 5,800 feet below the ocean surface, this discovery highlights just how much of the deep sea remains unexplored and undocumented.
💬 One key quote: “Discoveries like these remind us how much of the deep ocean in Galápagos remains unexplored. Every new species helps us better understand these hidden ecosystems and why protecting them matters,” said Salome Buglass, marine scientist at the University of California of Los Angeles.

1️⃣ The big picture: A tiny blue octopus discovered nearly 6,000 feet below the ocean surface near the Galápagos Islands has officially been classified as a new species, named Microeledone galapagensis. First spotted during a 2015 deep-sea expedition using a remotely operated vehicle near Darwin Island, the golf ball-sized creature immediately stood out for its striking color and unfamiliar appearance. Researchers at the Field Museum in Chicago used advanced micro CT scanning to study the specimen without physically cutting it open, revealing detailed views of its internal organs and mouth structures. Published in the journal Zootaxa, the discovery adds yet another unique animal to the Galápagos, an archipelago already celebrated for its extraordinary biodiversity.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Finding a brand new species in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth reinforces just how much life the deep ocean still holds, waiting to be discovered. Non-destructive CT imaging allowed scientists to fully analyze this rare specimen without destroying it, setting a promising precedent for studying other fragile and one-of-a-kind specimens in the future. Each new species identified in the deep Galápagos waters strengthens the scientific case for protecting these ecosystems, giving conservationists more concrete evidence to advocate for ocean preservation policies. Discoveries like this one also inspire further deep-sea exploration, which can lead to even more breakthroughs in our understanding of marine life and evolution.

3️⃣ What’s next: Researchers hope that further deep-sea expeditions in the Galápagos region will uncover additional specimens of Microeledone galapagensis, helping scientists better understand its behavior, range, and biology. Continued use of non-destructive imaging techniques like micro CT scanning will likely become a standard practice for studying other rare deep-sea species. Findings like this one are expected to support broader conservation efforts aimed at protecting the poorly understood ecosystems of the deep ocean.
