Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Northern Ireland’s Rathlin Island has become the first place in the world to successfully eradicate an invasive feral ferret population, giving over 250,000 seabirds a real chance to recover and thrive.
📈 One key stat: One ferret killed 27 adult seabirds in just two days on Rathlin Island, illustrating how severely invasive ferrets threatened the colony before eradication efforts succeeded.
💬 One key quote: “The successful, world first eradication of ferrets means that puffins and other seabirds can now nest and raise their young more safely on Rathlin for the first time in generations,” said Joanne Sherwood, RSPB NI Director.

1️⃣ The big picture: Rathlin Island, located off the north coast of County Antrim in Northern Ireland, is home to over 250,000 seabirds, including puffins, razorbills, guillemots, and Manx shearwaters. For decades, an invasive population of feral ferrets preyed on eggs, chicks, and adult birds, severely threatening this internationally important seabird colony. Starting in 2021, the LIFE Raft project, led by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Northern Ireland chapter alongside local and government partners, set out to remove these predators using a combination of thermal drones, detection dogs, and community support. After years of meticulous work carried out on steep cliffs and through extreme weather, the team confirmed a world first: the complete eradication of an invasive ferret population from an island. Early monitoring already shows encouraging signs of seabird recovery, including the first confirmed breeding Manx shearwater on Rathlin in over two decades.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Seabirds on Rathlin Island can now nest and raise their young with far greater safety, marking a turning point for a colony of over 250,000 birds that had faced predation pressure for generations. Completing a world first ferret eradication proves that this kind of targeted conservation approach can work beyond the more commonly targeted species like rats and rabbits, opening the door for similar efforts in other parts of the world. Beyond seabirds, other vulnerable wildlife including corncrakes, chough, and ground-nesting birds will also benefit from the removal of invasive predators, multiplying the ecological impact of this single project. Local residents gained new skills and employment throughout the project, and islanders can now keep domestic poultry again with greater confidence, showing that conservation and community wellbeing can go hand in hand. Robust biosecurity measures now protect the island from future ferret incursions, helping secure these gains for years to come.

3️⃣ What’s next: Seabird monitoring on Rathlin Island will continue in the coming years to track population recovery across multiple species. Biosecurity measures are already in place to prevent any future ferret reintroduction to the island. A new ferry service now runs regular trips to Rathlin, giving visitors the opportunity to witness the island’s wildlife revival firsthand.
