Hey fellow impactful ninja ?
You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.
Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.
But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.
Why do we add these product links?
First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.
And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.
What do these affiliate links mean for you?
First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.
And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.
What do these affiliate links mean for us?
When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).
And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.
What does this mean for me personally?
You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.
Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.
Stay impactful,
Happy Wednesday 👋
Did you know that we produce 350 million tons of plastic globally each year?
Plastic pollution has become one of our most pressing environmental challenges, impacting human health, marine life, and the climate.
If we don’t act fast, there soon could be more plastic in our oceans than fish by weight… so, what can we do about it?
Well, in a groundbreaking development, Japanese scientists have developed a new type of plastic.
And this might just solve our plastic pollution problem once and for all!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:
- The new type of plastic that dissolves in seawater 🌊
- Enhancing our understanding of space 🌌
- How Finland is rapidly transitioning away from coal power 🇫🇮
- Discussion of the week: ways to support our local economies 💬
- And more… 💚

🌊 Scientists Develop A New Type Of Plastic That Fully Dissolves In Seawater
1️⃣ The big picture: A groundbreaking development in plastic technology has emerged from Japan, offering a revolutionary solution to plastic pollution. Researchers at the RIKEN institute have created a new type of plastic that fully dissolves in seawater in 8 hours, without leaving behind any microplastics or harmful toxins. The new material, made from supramolecular polymers, provides a breakthrough by dissolving in saltwater within hours. The unique formulation involves “salt bridges” that hold the molecules together and break down in seawater, leaving no harmful debris.
2️⃣ Why is this good news: Traditional plastics are durable and versatile, but their persistence in the environment, particularly in oceans, results in the formation of microplastics that can harm ecosystems and even human health. Unlike biodegradable plastics that still break into microplastics, this new material fully dissolves without leaving harmful residues. Beyond its environmental benefits, this material is also practical as it can be shaped like regular plastic, used in 3D printing, and even coated for durability until needed.
3️⃣ What’s next: This innovation brings us closer to reducing plastic waste in oceans and finding sustainable solutions for the future. While it offers a promising alternative to traditional plastic, researchers stress that systemic changes in the plastic industry and waste management systems are necessary to fully address plastic pollution.

📢 More Good News…
🧺 An advancement in eco-friendly cleaning products:
- A groundbreaking development in eco-friendly cleaning products has emerged, with researchers creating a detergent made from wood fibers and corn protein.
- Researchers combined cellulose nanofibers (from wood) and zein protein (from corn) to create a detergent that performs well on stains but is much gentler on the environment. The cellulose helps form emulsions that attract and repel water, while zein protein stabilizes the solution and captures oils.
- This new detergent not only provides a cost-effective alternative to synthetic cleaning agents but also offers a solution that can be made from abundant, renewable resources. This innovation could lead to a greener future for cleaning products, helping to reduce the harmful impact of traditional detergents on the planet.
🌌 Enhancing our understanding of space:
- The Euclid space telescope has made a groundbreaking discovery by revealing thousands of hidden dwarf galaxies that were previously too faint to be detected.
- Dwarf galaxies are considered the building blocks of the universe. They contain a small number of stars but often hold significant amounts of dark matter, which is invisible but crucial for understanding the structure of the cosmos.
- The discoveries from Euclid will help refine cosmological models by providing data on how galaxies evolve and the role of dark energy in the universe’s expansion. Euclid’s mission is expected to continue for years, with the potential to uncover a million new dwarf galaxies, deepening our understanding of the universe’s formation and the mysterious forces at play.
🇫🇮 How Finland is rapidly transitioning away from coal power:
- Finland is making impressive strides in transitioning to clean energy, with the closure of the Salmisaari coal power plant in Helsinki marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy landscape.
- By closing the Salmisaari coal plant ahead of schedule on April 1, 2025, Finland has brought its coal usage to less than 1% of the energy mix, meeting its coal phase-out target four years early.
- The Finnish government played a key role by passing a law in 2019 to ban coal for energy use within a decade. Finland’s progress shows that with the right policies, transitioning away from coal can happen quickly and effectively, offering a blueprint for other nations to follow.
