Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Pacific island nations are creating a massive 6-million-square-kilometer Indigenous-led ocean reserve in Melanesia that will protect rich marine biodiversity while honoring ancestral stewardship traditions.
📈 One key stat: The Melanesian Ocean Reserve will cover an area nearly as big as the Amazon Rainforest, protecting waters that host 75% of known coral species and over 3,000 species of reef-associated fish.
💬 One key quote: “The Melanesian Ocean Reserve will give the governments and peoples of Melanesia the ability to do much more to protect our ancestral waters from those who extract and exploit without concern for our planet and its living beings,” Vanuatu’s environment minister, Ralph Regenvanu, said in a joint press release.

1️⃣ The big picture: Pacific island nations are taking a bold step toward ocean conservation with plans for the world’s first Indigenous-led marine reserve. The governments of Solomon Islands and Vanuatu have announced their commitment to create the Melanesian Ocean Reserve, with ongoing conversations with Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia. This ambitious project aims to protect at least 6 million square kilometers of ocean – an area comparable to the Amazon Rainforest. The reserve will focus on sustainable economic activities that align with Indigenous values while addressing challenges like illegal fishing that currently plague these waters. Melanesia stands as one of Earth’s biodiversity hotspots, home to an incredible 75% of known coral species.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This initiative places Indigenous knowledge and stewardship at the center of marine conservation, creating a model that could inspire similar efforts worldwide. Local communities who have quietly protected over 150,000 square kilometers of ocean will now have formal recognition and support to expand their conservation work. The reserve will safeguard one of Earth’s most biodiverse marine regions, protecting thousands of species including 75% of known corals and over 3,000 reef fish species. By prioritizing sustainable economic activities aligned with Indigenous values, the reserve creates a framework for balancing conservation with human needs. New Caledonia’s additional commitment to a moratorium on seabed exploitation until 2075 further strengthens regional ocean protection efforts.

3️⃣ What’s next: The governments must now finalize the details of how the Melanesian Ocean Reserve will operate, including specific protection measures and permitted economic activities. Ongoing conversations with Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia will determine the final boundaries and management structure of the reserve. Addressing potential conflicts, like Papua New Guinea’s deep-sea mining plans, will be crucial to ensure the reserve’s vision of sustainability is fully realized.
