Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

About 100 million Americans experience chronic pain – more than those who have diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined. Moreover, one in five people in Europe have chronic pain, and 40% of early retirement in Australia is due to chronic pain. As pain is a significant global concern, it’s time to take collective action to improve pain management strategies and advocate for increased social support. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s Pain Awareness Month?

👉 Official Name: Pain Awareness Month
💚 Cause: Increase public awareness of chronic pain and the issues people with pain face
📅 Next Date: September 1-30, 2026
🌐 Official Website: www.acpanow.com/pain-awareness.html
🐦 Hashtag: #PainAwarenessMonth, #SolvePainTogether

Keep on reading to find out all the important information about Pain Awareness Month at a glance: its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About Pain Awareness Month at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: Pain Awareness Month is a global movement to protect the rights of chronic pain patients and advocate for research to better prevent and treat it. This month, people who experience chronic pain are invited to share their stories and receive support from their peers. Also, pain clinicians are encouraged to validate the experiences reported by people living with pain. In addition, this event highlights the economic losses that stem from chronic pain – people are less productive, experience disabilities, and retire early – and advocates for improved medical insurance for patients.

2️⃣ Why it is important: Researchers found pain, especially low back pain, osteoarthritis, neck pain, and migraine to be the leading causes of disability and disease burden globally. In fact, the burden of pain conditions is higher than that of depression, cancers, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, chronic pain is linked to numerous other physical and mental conditions and is one of the biggest contributors to high healthcare costs, early retirement, and productivity loss. For instance, productivity losses stemming from chronic pain rose to nearly $50 billion in 2020 alone

3️⃣ How you can get involved: From helping dedicated nonprofits to sharing personal stories of chronic pain, here are the best ways to celebrate Pain Awareness Month:

  1. Share Your Stories: If you are a person living with chronic pain, this is the perfect time to raise awareness of your health experiences, the stigmas you encountered, and the related conditions you have. Share personal videos and posts on social media with the hashtags #PainAwarenessMonth and #SolvePainTogether
  2. Offer Compassion: Sometimes, what helps lift the burden of pain is a loved one who gives genuine support. If you have a friend, family member, or colleague who struggles with (chronic) pain, offering a kind word and practical help can go a long way!
  3. Support Dedicated Charities: You have a full month to donate your money, time, and energy to organizations that fight to improve chronic pain research, management, and social visibility! You can even become their ambassador and work with researchers, politicians, and insurance companies to serve the rights of people living with pain.
  4. Participate: Worldwide, numerous awareness events help communities better understand chronic pain – find a local one and participate! You can also use social media to raise awareness of the prevalence of chronic pain and the devastating effects it can have.

A Brief History of Pain Awareness Month

When was this event established: Pain Awareness Month was created in 2001 by the founder of the American Chronic Pain Association, Penney Cowan, to draw attention to the issues that people with pain face, such as access to care and stigma. For instance, it was important to her that people living with pain did not feel invisible and understood that their experience was real and not just “in their head” – the way many of them are made to feel. Although Pain Awareness Month was originally set to launch in September 2001, it was delayed until 2002 due to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the US.

How has it developed since then: Today, Pain Awareness Month is a global movement, led by over 80 partner organizations, advocacy groups, and medical associations to include the unique experiences with pain people have around the world. Among the partners are the International Association for the Study of Pain, the US Pain Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and The World Health Assembly – a part of the World Health Organization. Usually, each week of the month addresses different topics such as Sex and Gender Disparities in Pain, Rare Conditions, and Scientific Research

3 Interesting Facts About Pain Awareness Month

  1. Mental Health Impact: People living with chronic pain are at heightened risk for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. For instance, a 2023 study has found that 12 million Americans, have co-occurring chronic pain and anxiety or depression. Another study has also found that 85% of people with chronic pain experience severe depression.
  2. Insurance Burdens: A reciprocal association has been found between insurance coverage and chronic pain. This is most probably because of insufficient access to chronic pain treatment for insured adults or “not qualifying” for insurance based on symptoms. In this way, insurance companies can act as a stopgap for treatments for people with chronic pain.
  3. Affecting the Economy: Chronic pain is strongly associated with workplace absenteeism and unemployment, costing the US alone up to $635 billion annually through medical bills, lower productivity, lost time at work, and lower wages. The cost of pain outweighs the annual costs of the six major diagnoses: cardiovascular diseases, cancer, injury and poisoning, diabetes, digestive diseases, and respiratory disease.
