Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Twelve pairs of poison dart frogs were successfully moved to Panama’s oldest national park, offering new hope in the global battle against a devastating fungal disease that has decimated amphibian populations worldwide.
📈 One key stat: The chytrid fungus has wiped out 90 species of amphibians and caused a 90% decline in population abundance in 124 other species, highlighting why this relocation effort is critical for species survival.
💬 One key quote: “If this succeeds — if the animals survive and breed — we will have restored part of the soundscape of the forest,” said Brian Gratwicke, conservation biologist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

1️⃣ The big picture: Researchers recently relocated 12 pairs of Pratt’s poison dart frogs in Panama as part of efforts to combat the devastating effects of the chytrid fungus on amphibian populations. This fungal disease has affected hundreds of species worldwide over the last 50 years, leading to numerous extinctions and population declines. The translocation project aims to strengthen the genetic diversity of these frogs in Panama and provide insights into fighting the deadly disease. While not endangered, these frogs play vital ecological roles in forest ecosystems and have cultural significance, making their conservation important beyond their survival as a species.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The relocating of Pratt’s poison frogs represents a potential breakthrough after 15 years of challenging work on chytrid mitigation. Only one of the 24 frogs tested positive for the fungus during quarantine, suggesting this species may have lower infection rates than others. This initiative has already shown early success with one pair breeding before release, indicating reproductive viability. The project could restore frog populations to areas where they’ve been absent for nearly two decades, bringing back the natural soundscape of the forest. Beyond ecological benefits, these frogs’ toxins hold potential value for human medicine, making their conservation important for scientific advancement.

3️⃣ What’s next: Researchers will continue monitoring the released frogs by recording their calls in the jungle and using computer programs to distinguish them from other species. The El Valle Amphibian Conservation Center is developing an outdoor corridor to simulate wild conditions while protecting frogs from predators and the fungus. Conservation groups hope this successful translocation will provide a model for similar efforts with other amphibian species affected by the fungus.
