Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Monday 👋

Did you know that the Coral Triangle is home to 76% of the world’s coral reef species

Yet, this vital ecosystem is under threat from climate change and unsustainable fishing practices, with over 85% of reefs within the triangle currently threatened by local stressors…

So, today, I would like to share an event with you that raises awareness of the threats facing coral reefs and inspires action to protect this biodiversity hotspot!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • Protecting the vital Coral Triangle 🪸
  • New cooling technique to make solar panels more sustainable ☀️
  • Using AI to fight plastic pollution 🥤
  • Discussion of the week: daily habits of positivity 💬
  • And more… 💚

🪸 Event of the Week: Coral Triangle Day

👉 Did you know that today (June 9) is Coral Triangle Day? This event brings together the nations of the Coral Triangle to discuss important ecological initiatives to protect this area, which is considered to be the world’s epicenter of marine diversity.

1️⃣ The big picture: Coral Triangle Day was first held in 2012 as a regional interpretation of World Oceans Day. The Coral Triangle encompasses the seas of six countries in the Asia-Pacific region: Malaysia, the Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Throughout the day, numerous activities are held in several locations, such as exhibitions, beach parties, clean-up initiatives, and sustainable seafood dinners to raise awareness of the threats facing this vital biodiversity hotspot. There is a different theme every year. For example, the theme in 2013 was “Shared Waters, Shared Solutions: Coming Together as One for the World’s Centre of Marine Life—The Coral Triangle.”

2️⃣ Why is this important: The Coral Triangle is one of the 3 mega ecological complexes on our planet, together with the Congo Basin and the Amazon Rainforest. This region represents the global epicenter of marine diversity—with 76% of all known coral species, 53% of the world’s coral reefs, 37% of all known coral reef fish species, the greatest extent of mangrove forests in the world, and spawning and juvenile growth areas for the world’s largest tuna fishery. It also sustains 120 million people. Yet, the Coral Triangle is under threat from overfishing, habitat destruction, global warming, and unsustainable tourism practices. As a result, 79% of reef fish reproductive gatherings have stopped forming or are declining.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Coral Triangle Day by spreading awareness of the threats facing coral reefs and promoting the conservation of these critical ecosystems on social media, using the #CoralTriangleDay. You can also get involved by reducing your plastic waste, attending a Coral Triangle exhibition near you, or holding your own educational event in your community.

📢 Three Good News

☀️ New cooling technique cuts solar panel heat, triples lifespan, and boosts output:

  • Scientists at Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University (KAUST) have developed a passive cooling system for solar panels that reduces operating temperature by 49°F, boosting power output by 13%, and extends panel lifespans threefold.
  • Unlike traditional cooling methods that consume additional power, this passive system requires zero electricity to operate, making it truly sustainable.
  • The team at KAUST will pursue additional applications for their cooling technology beyond solar panels, including potential uses in greenhouses and other heat-sensitive systems.

🔬 New Texas facility transforms industrial CO2 into valuable chemicals:

  • A new carbon transformation facility breaks ground in Texas City, transforming industrial CO2 emissions into sustainable chemicals like acetic acid that can be used in various manufacturing processes.
  • By transforming waste CO2 into products already in high demand across multiple industries, the project creates economic value from what was previously considered a pollutant.
  • Beyond environmental benefits, the facility enhances domestic production of essential chemicals, reducing reliance on global imports and strengthening supply chain resilience for critical industries, including agriculture and pharmaceuticals.
