Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Monday 👋

🚮 Event of the Week: Stop Food Waste Day

👉 Did you know that this Wednesday (April 30) is Stop Food Waste Day? This is a global event fighting to reduce food waste by raising awareness of the issue and sharing practical, creative, and impactful ways to change our habits and save more food.

1️⃣ The big picture: Stop Food Waste Day was launched in 2017 by Compass Group USA, one of the world’s largest food service companies working with restaurants, hospitals, and schools. Compass Group’s mission is to teach their chefs how to track and reduce waste as much as possible, and through this event, they wanted to bring these tools and knowledge to people worldwide. Today, Stop Food Waste Day is a global movement that has helped millions of people take the pledge to end food waste, share tips on how to reduce food loss at home, and join the global conversation on how we can reduce our consumer impact. The event collaborates with experienced chefs to make it easy for everyone to reduce food loss by creating delicious meals that give a second life to ingredients that commonly go to waste.

2️⃣ Why is this important: ⅓ of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, amounting to 1.3 billion tons of food each year. If 25% of the food currently being wasted was saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million people worldwide. Moreover, the cost of food waste for the global economy is around $940 billion. In addition, when food is wasted, all the resources used to produce the food – including water, land, energy, labor, and capital – go to waste as well. What’s more, throwing food in landfills releases 4.4 gigatons of CO2 emissionsmore than the industries of plastic, aviation, and oil – accelerating climate change.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Stop Food Waste Day by being mindful of the food you waste in your household. To help you out you can download one of the many food-rescuing apps to find engaging and creative ways to save food. You can also get involved by spreading awareness of the harm caused by food waste on your social media channels,

Below are our favorite charities that are especially relevant for this awareness event:

  • Starting with New Zealand’s landmark Te Awa Tupua Act in 2017, which declared the Whanganui River as a living being with legal rights, this approach has spread to dozens of countries.

🦇 Rediscovery of rare bats spurs conservation efforts in Rwanda:

  • The rediscovery of rare bat species in Rwanda’s Nyungwe National Park sparks new conservation efforts to protect these crucial ecosystem contributors while safely managing human interactions.
  • Bats comprise 40% of Rwanda’s mammal diversity, making their protection vital for maintaining the country’s biodiversity.
  • Researchers are now working to map bat roost sites and implement protective measures while addressing public health concerns through scientific approaches rather than elimination efforts.
