Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Botanists worldwide are decoding the biology of extremely rare plants to reintroduce them successfully into the wild, helping rebuild self-sustaining populations and prevent extinction.
📈 One key stat: Around 45% of the world’s flowering plants are threatened with extinction, making plant reintroduction projects a vital conservation strategy.
💬 One key quote: “There is no technological reason why any plant species should become extinct. There are some that are more difficult than others, but really, it’s a question of just applying ourselves.” said Paul Smith, secretary-general of Botanic Gardens Conservation International.

1️⃣ The big picture: Scientists across the globe are working to save critically endangered plants by reintroducing them to their native habitats. From South African daisies to Colombian magnolias and Philippine coffee trees, botanists face significant challenges in understanding these rare species’ biology. Many must determine optimal germination conditions, suitable growing sites, and protective measures against threats like climate change and human activities. Unlike endangered animals, rare plants receive far less conservation attention, yet restoring plant diversity is crucial for healthy ecosystem function. These projects require long-term commitment and creative solutions, especially in regions with limited funding.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Despite numerous challenges, botanists are making remarkable progress saving plants from extinction. In South Africa, researchers have successfully propagated the nearly extinct Marasmodes undulata daisy from just a handful of seeds. Scientists in Mauritius saved a critically endangered tree by grafting it onto a more abundant relative. Colombian conservationists have increased survival rates of rare magnolias by identifying ideal growing conditions at forest edges. These successes demonstrate that even species with extremely limited populations can be rescued with persistence and botanical knowledge. Local communities are increasingly involved in these efforts, creating both conservation benefits and sustainable livelihoods while shifting cultural perspectives to value these rare plants.

3️⃣ What’s next: Botanists need more time to establish self-sustaining plant populations, with some species requiring 5-12 years to mature and reproduce. Securing long-term funding remains crucial, especially in the Global South where conservation grants typically last three years or less. Scientists hope funding opportunities will increase as institutions recognize that ecosystem restoration requires native plant diversity rather than just fast-growing species.
