The new method works at room temperature by soaking fabrics in concentrated hydrochloric acid, breaking cotton down into glucose while preserving polyester fibers for reuse. With the fashion industry generating about 10% of global carbon emissions and massive textile waste, this innovation offers a path toward circular textile production and reduced environmental impact.
