Beyond healthcare, the reliable electricity enables entrepreneurs to increase productivity and earnings, allowing communities to create new income streams and improve their quality of life.
2️⃣ Why is this good news: Reliable solar electricity is dramatically improving healthcare delivery in remote villages, replacing unreliable grid connections that could fail during critical medical procedures. Special solar-powered backpacks now keep vaccines at proper temperatures during transport to outlying communities, while tele-clinics connect patients with distant specialists via video consultations. Local entrepreneurs have increased their productivity and income with solar power, from blacksmiths and tailors to food vendors and printshops. Village women have gained economic independence through small solar-powered businesses, while solar streetlights improve safety from both dangerous wildlife and human threats. The entire ecosystem creates sustainable paths out of poverty through both improved health outcomes and increased earning potential.
