Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Starbucks transitions 580 US stores from plastic to paper cups for cold drinks to improve sustainability and recyclability, setting an example for reducing single-use plastics in the food service industry.
📈 One key stat: Of 36 tracked plastic Starbucks cups deposited in recycling bins, 32 ended up in landfills or incinerators rather than being recycled, highlighting the urgent need for more sustainable alternatives.
💬 One key quote: “This is a clear admission that polypropylene cups are not recyclable” says Jan Dell, founder of The Last Beach Cleanup.

1️⃣ The big picture: Starbucks has begun replacing plastic cups with paper alternatives lined with bioplastic at hundreds of US locations, marking a significant shift away from single-use plastics. This change affects approximately 580 stores and primarily impacts cold drinks like Frappuccinos that were traditionally served in polypropylene plastic cups. The transition aligns with both local regulations restricting single-use plastics and Starbucks’ own sustainability commitment to make all packaging reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2030. Recent investigations revealed that most Starbucks plastic cups end up in landfills despite recycling claims, making this switch particularly meaningful for reducing plastic waste.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This shift represents a major step toward reducing plastic pollution from one of the world’s largest restaurant chains. The paper cups provide a more environmentally responsible alternative since they’re designed to be compostable, unlike the previous plastic versions that rarely made it to recycling facilities. The change sets an important precedent for other large food service companies to follow suit in reducing single-use plastics. This move can significantly decrease the amount of plastic waste entering landfills and oceans, while also raising consumer awareness about the importance of sustainable packaging.

3️⃣ What’s next: Starbucks needs to expand this initiative beyond the initial 580 stores to cover all 16,000+ US locations. The company plans to continue making ceramic mugs available for in-store dining and allowing more customers to use their own reusable cups. Environmental advocates are pushing Starbucks to eliminate additional forms of single-use plastic, such as snack boxes and prepackaged beverages, while also improving transparency about their plans and updating recycling bin labels to better reflect what materials can actually be recycled.
