Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Wednesday 👋

Did you know that Africa’s agricultural revolution isn’t happening in labs but on small farms run by women?

Across sub-Saharan Africa, 33 million women farmers are embracing sustainable practices that slash costs while accessing premium organic markets that pay top dollar…

Today, let’s explore how South Africa’s G20 leadership could scale this grassroots movement into continental policy!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • How sustainable farming boosts earnings for millions of women
  • Wind energy gets a minimalistic makeover with new design 🌬️
  • How coconuts can help reshape the shipping industry 🥥
  • Discussion of the week: impactful volunteer experiences 💬
  • And more… 💚

👩‍🌾 How Sustainable Farming Boosts Earnings for 33 Million African Women Farmers

1️⃣ The big picture: Across sub-Saharan Africa, 33 million smallholder farmers cultivate small plots of land under two hectares, with women comprising more than half of this agricultural workforce. Despite their deep-rooted knowledge of local ecosystems and traditional farming methods, these women farmers face significant barriers accessing land, equipment, and financing. A recent study explores how agroecology – farming practices that work with nature rather than against it – can help these women build more productive and sustainable farms. By using organic materials, practicing intercropping, and integrating livestock with crops, agroecology offers a path to increased household food security while creating new market opportunities with higher profit potential.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Agroecology presents multiple benefits for women smallholder farmers across Africa. The approach reduces dependence on expensive chemical inputs by utilizing natural alternatives like compost and mulch, dramatically lowering production costs. Women can create new value chains through organic production, accessing premium markets that pay higher prices. The diverse farming system of agroecology – mixing crops, trees and livestock – also builds climate resilience while providing families with varied nutrition. Supporting women farmers in this transition aligns perfectly with their existing expertise in backyard farming, allowing them to leverage traditional knowledge into sustainable livelihoods that protect rather than deplete local ecosystems.

3️⃣ What’s next: South Africa, as this year’s G20 president, can influence policies to support women’s transition to agroecology through targeted investments and rights protection. Dedicated market infrastructure must connect women farmers directly to customers through cooperatives and digital platforms. Additionally, community-based processing facilities and organic certification programs can help these farmers successfully compete in broader markets.

📢 More Good News…

🥥 How coconuts can help reshape the shipping industry:

  • A Dutch company, CocoPallet, has developed durable, biodegradable shipping pallets made entirely from discarded coconut husks, offering a sustainable alternative to wooden pallets and tackling multiple environmental problems at once.
  • Each pallet is formed from 60–70 husks, pressed together without glue, nails, or chemical additives, relying on the natural lignin in coconut fiber as a binder. Their standout feature is a nestable design, which allows empty pallets to fit inside each other, reducing storage and transport space requirements by 70%.
  • Coconut husks, usually discarded or burned in tropical regions, are plentiful and renewable. Using them reduces local air pollution, supports circular economy principles, and provides extra income for small-scale farmers.

🌍 How real-time emissions data can revolutionize climate policy:

  • In 2025, Climate TRACE launched the world’s first monthly, near-real-time greenhouse gas emissions tracking system, using satellite data, ground sensors, and AI.
  • Unlike traditional emissions reports that can lag one to two years and often rely on self-reported or incomplete government and corporate data, Climate TRACE provides independent, transparent, and verified information—just 60 days old—on CO2 and methane emissions from over 660 million sources worldwide.
  • Dubbed a “climate Bloomberg Terminal,” the system allows users to track emissions by country, city, sector, or even individual facilities. This enables policymakers, businesses, and communities to identify problem areas, measure the impact of interventions, and respond quickly.

🌬️ Wind energy gets a minimalistic makeover with new design:

  • Envision Energy, a leading wind power company, has unveiled a prototype two-blade wind turbine that could significantly cut manufacturing and operational costs while maintaining the efficiency of traditional three-blade designs.
  • Fewer blades mean lower manufacturing costs, potentially cheaper maintenance, and shorter construction timelines for wind farms. Additionally, the reduced weight could allow for taller towers and larger rotor diameters, boosting overall energy output without the proportional cost increase.
  • While still in the prototype stage, the technology could mark a pivotal shift in turbine design if proven at scale—challenging the decades-long dominance of the three-blade model and potentially lowering the cost of clean energy worldwide.
