Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Wednesday 👋

You probably know that women play a pivotal role in society: from raising families to leading armies, women have made significant contributions to world history.

But in some places, women are still fighting for their basic rights, often facing discrimination, harassment, and violence.

So, what can we do to help protect and empower women?

Well, the EU has just taken an important step in promoting women’s rights in the form of a new law.

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • A positive step forward for women’s rights ♀️
  • How artificial glaciers can address water shortages 🧊
  • The world’s largest direct air capture plant goes online 🌎
  • And more… 💚

♀️ The EU Adopts Law Tackling Violence Against Women

1️⃣ The big picture: The EU has adopted the first law to combat violence against women. The new law addresses various forms of gender-based violence, including female genital mutilation, forced marriage, and online harassment. Moreover, the law allows for harsher punishments for crimes against specific groups, such as children, spouses, politicians, journalists, and human rights activists.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This law marks a significant milestone in efforts to protect women’s rights and safety, with politicians lauding the new law as groundbreaking and emphasizing its role in ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable and victims receive the support they need. The law is seen as an important step toward promoting women’s rights and creating a safer environment free from harassment and violence.

3️⃣ What’s next: The European Parliament’s approval has paved the way for the official adoption by member states, with a three-year timeframe for transposing the rules into national law. Overall, the adoption of this legislation reflects the EU’s commitment to combating gender-based violence and advancing gender equality, marking a positive step forward for women’s rights across the EU.

You can also consider donating to one or more charities that support women’s rights and fight for their safety, such as:

📢 More Good News…

🌎 The world’s largest direct air capture plant goes online:

  • Climeworks has opened the world’s largest operational direct air capture (DAC) plant in Iceland, a plant which aims to suck carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere to combat worsening climate change.
  • The Mammoth plant, almost ten times larger than the previous record holder, has the capacity to capture 36,000 metric tons of CO2 annually and is set to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
  • This marks Climeworks’ second commercial project, following the Orca plant in Iceland. Climeworks’ efforts represent a significant contribution to global efforts to address climate change and meet emissions reduction targets.

🌊 A breakthrough in wave energy technology:

  • Researchers at the Central South University in China were able to substantially increase the amount of electricity harvested from ocean waves by optimizing the design of a liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG).
  • With the improved TENG device, clean energy companies may find wave energy more economically viable for large-scale applications.
  • This innovation addresses one of the key challenges in wave energy extraction: maximizing energy output while minimizing costs. Breakthroughs like this one offer hope for overcoming existing barriers and unlocking the full potential of blue energy.

🧊 How artificial glaciers can address water shortages:

  • Artificial glaciers, such as ice stupas, have emerged as innovative solutions to address water shortages in regions heavily reliant on glacial meltwater. These structures are designed to store water during colder months and release it gradually during warmer seasons, supporting agriculture and other water-dependent activities.
  • Other approaches, such as covering glaciers with blankets or spraying them with artificial snow, have been implemented in some regions to slow down melting.
  • While artificial glaciers have shown promise in mitigating immediate water scarcity issues, experts emphasize that the most effective way to protect glaciers and address water shortages is by tackling the root cause, climate change.
