Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Texas approved $1.8 billion in funding for microgrids combining solar, batteries, and gas power to protect critical facilities like hospitals and water treatment plants during extreme weather events.
📈 One key stat: Texas peak electricity demand could more than double in the next five years, making these localized power solutions essential for maintaining critical services during outages.
💬 One key quote: “The $1.8 billion is a huge amount of money, and more ambitious than programs we’ve seen in other jurisdictions, but it’s very much in line with state policy to improve resilience at critical facilities since Winter Storm Uri.

1️⃣ The big picture: Texas has finally authorized $1.8 billion to create microgrids at critical facilities across the state, addressing vulnerabilities exposed by disasters like 2021’s Winter Storm Uri and 2024’s Hurricane Beryl. These systems will combine solar, battery storage, and gas-powered generators at locations including hospitals, nursing homes, water treatment plants, and emergency services. The funding comes after years of debate and represents a shift toward resilient, distributed energy solutions rather than solely focusing on large-scale gas plants. The program specifically targets facilities that previously couldn’t afford backup power systems.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This investment protects the most vulnerable Texans from life-threatening power outages at critical care facilities like nursing homes, where over 80,000 residents are at risk during blackouts. The microgrids can be deployed much faster than large power plants, providing immediate resilience benefits while the grid struggles with rapidly growing demand. The program requires a mix of clean energy and traditional generation, creating more sustainable power solutions than diesel generators alone. These systems also offer daily benefits by reducing energy costs through solar generation and helping facilities manage their power consumption more effectively. The hybrid approach ensures both short-term emergency response and longer-term grid stability.

3️⃣ What’s next: The state will begin distributing funds to critical facilities that apply, with a focus on those that previously couldn’t afford backup power systems. Companies in the GRIT coalition will work with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas to implement these projects across the state. Each customer will determine the optimal mix of solar, battery, and gas generation based on their specific needs and economics.
