Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Friday 👋

Did you know that wind energy is on the rise globally?

For example, last year the global wind industry installed a record 117 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity, marking the highest annual addition to date!

Today’s focus is on Latin America, which is experiencing significant growth in wind energy, driven by abundant natural resources and supportive policies!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • How offshore wind energy is on the rise in Latin America 🌬️
  • Removing emissions and providing hygiene kits 💚
  • How rewilding raised bumblebee populations in just two years 🐝
  • How the otter reintroduction brings balance to New Mexico’s ecosystems 🦦
  • And more… 💚

🌬️ The Rise of Offshore Wind Energy in Latin America

1️⃣ The big picture: Latin America, with its extensive coastlines and robust wind resources, is poised to become a significant player in the global shift toward renewable energy. While the region already boasts about 44.7 GW of onshore wind capacity, it is now venturing into the offshore wind sector, which holds immense potential for sustainable growth. Countries like Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, and Chile are leading this charge, each exploring and implementing unique strategies to harness this powerful resource.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The transition to offshore wind represents a major stride in diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Brazil, with an estimated offshore wind potential of 700 GW, is preparing for future auctions that could further solidify its position as a renewable energy leader. Meanwhile, Colombia has pioneered a regulatory framework for seabed allocation, leading to its first offshore wind energy tender. Uruguay and Chile are also making significant moves, with Uruguay planning to produce green hydrogen and Chile progressing with plans for its first offshore wind farms.

3️⃣ What’s next: As these countries navigate the complexities of establishing a new industry, they face challenges like creating effective regulatory frameworks and engaging local communities. However, the groundwork being laid today is crucial. International collaborations and support from organizations like The World Bank and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) are pivotal in advancing these initiatives. With continued effort and strategic partnerships, Latin America could soon harness its offshore winds to power a more sustainable future, making a substantial contribution to global efforts against climate change.

💚 Removing Emissions and Providing Hygiene Kits Thanks to Your Support

We’ve shared so much information with you about The Most Impactful Advent Calendar… And now that December has arrived, I’d love to show you all the good deeds we are doing daily together with our partners!

DAY 5: You’ve Removed Your Estimated Carbon Emissions for Today (together with Thanks a Ton)

  • Happy World Soil Day! Today, you’ve removed your carbon emissions for this very day (estimated at 40kg) with soil carbon removal methods!
  • Soils can hold more carbon than the atmosphere, and healthy soils are full of carbon. Regenerative agricultural practices, such as no-till or cover crops, restore carbon-depleted soils and improve fertility.
  • Removing your carbon emissions with soil carbon sequestration is a great example of how simple changes can have a big impact on the climate, as well as improve agricultural ecosystems and the sustainability of our food supply.

DAY 6: You’ve Provided a Hygiene Kit to One Person in Need (together with Simply the Basics)

  • Happy National Handwashing Awareness Week! Today you gifted a hygiene kit to one person in need.
  • While things like a bar of soap, hand sanitizer, or a face mask sound like simple basics to most of us, they have tremendous benefits for your recipient.
  • They help them to stay clean, which has a positive impact on their physical health and a huge impact on their self-esteem, which in turn allows them to have better mental health and even rebuild relationships.

Did you know: You can still support all good deeds of The Most Impactful Advent Calendar here and get your very own calendar—and if you choose the digital version, then you’ll directly get the details from all our previous good deeds into your inbox!

📢 Three More Good News

🐝 How rewilding raised Scottish bumblebee populations in two years:

  • A rewilding project in Scotland has revived bumblebee populations in just two years. The restoration project rewilded 90 acres of barley monoculture fields, which now supports over 4,000 bumblebees.
  • Pollinators, like bumblebees, are crucial in helping flowering plants reproduce and support ecosystems. This new number of bumblebees is over 100 times more than the 35 recorded in 2021. The diversity of bumblebee species has also doubled, increasing local biodiversity.
  • Now, future efforts may focus on expanding community participation, securing more land for rewilding projects, and advocating for similar initiatives to bolster sustainable action.

🌱 How one farm is hosting a community solar plant for 350 homes:

  • The Carver Solar project in Massachusetts, US has converted several acres of a cranberry bog into a community solar plant. The cranberry bog now provides two things: fresh produce, as well as solar power for around 350 low-income residents, educational institutions, and local businesses.
  • This project shows how renewable energy can be made more accessible to low-income communities without demanding large amounts of land. These dual-purpose strategies are incredibly effective at shifting underutilized land into clean energy sources, while still balancing food production.
  • While the project is currently facing challenges, addressing these issues responsibly can set a new standard for sustainable solar development on agricultural lands.

🦦 How the otter reintroduction brings balance to New Mexico’s ecosystems:

  • New Mexico’s otter population is now making a comeback, thanks to restoration efforts. Numerous otters were reintroduced around 2008, and the population grew to 100 by 2018, with additional support from Louisiana-released otters.
  • Otters are vital to ecosystems by regulating prey populations, improving water quality, and supporting river health. After being nearly wiped out in the early 1900s due to trapping and habitat loss, this is a major success, bringing a crucial native species back to its local environment.
  • New Mexico’s efforts could inspire further projects. As their numbers grow, these otters are becoming a symbol of successful ecological restoration. These projects and similar ones around the world—like rewilding projects helping bumblebee populations in Scotland—prove that it is possible to reverse environmental damage.
