Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Friday 👋

Did you know scientists just found a way to pull clean water straight out of desert air?

Their discovery of special crystal-like materials (that act like a molecular sponge, soaking up moisture in even the driest places on Earth) earned them this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry…

It could transform how we store energy, capture carbon, and solve water scarcity all at once!

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • The Nobel Prize in Chemistry honors a discovery that pulls water from desert air 🥇
  • Renewables overtake coal globally ⚡
  • The magnetic powder that removes 96% of microplastics from drinking water 🧲
  • Discussion of the week: avoiding greenwashing 💬
  • And more… 💚

🥇 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Honors Discovery That Pulls Water From Desert Air

1️⃣ The big picture: Three scientists – Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi – have been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their groundbreaking work on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). These crystalline materials contain microscopic cavities perfect for housing various molecules, creating a revolutionary approach to molecular architecture. MOFs retain their structure even when emptied of solvent molecules, contrary to previous scientific assumptions. This discovery has opened new doors for green technology applications, including gas storage, carbon capture, and water harvesting from desert air.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Metal-organic frameworks represent a major advancement for sustainable technologies across multiple fields. Their unique cavities can store hydrogen fuel much more efficiently for clean transportation solutions and selectively capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to combat climate change. Scientists can easily customize MOFs by changing their metal components and carbon-based linkers, making them versatile for specific applications. Beyond environmental benefits, these materials show promise for controlled drug delivery, battery improvements, and thermal energy storage. MOFs’ ability to harvest water from desert air could help address water scarcity in arid regions.

3️⃣What’s next: Researchers will continue exploring new applications for MOFs in areas like chemical sensing and energy storage. Manufacturing processes need to scale up to make these materials commercially viable for widespread use. Scientists may develop novel MOF structures with increasingly specialized functions tailored to specific industrial and environmental challenges.

📢 Three More Good News

⚡ Renewables Overtake Coal Globally as Developing Nations Lead the Charge:

  • 📰 The quick summary: Renewable energy has officially surpassed coal as the world’s leading electricity source, with the fastest growth happening in smaller developing countries like Bhutan and Nepal where economic necessity drives clean energy adoption.
  • 📈 One key stat: Electric vehicles now make up 76% of new four-wheel vehicle sales in Nepal, showing how rapidly a fossil fuel-dependent nation can transform its transportation system.
  • 💬 One key quote: “For the first time, renewables have toppled coal as the world’s leading source of electricity, in keeping with International Energy Agency projections for this historic shift.”

🧲 Magnetic Powder Removes 96% of Microplastics from Drinking Water:

  • 📰 The quick summary: Scientists successfully tested magnetic powder that removes up to 96% of microplastics from drinking water, offering a practical and affordable solution to a widespread environmental problem.
  • 📈 One key stat: The magnetic powders removed up to 96% of small polyethylene particles from purified water, making them extremely effective at capturing the tiniest and most harmful microplastics.
  • 💬 One key quote: “This specialised magnetic powder can tackle a tiny pollutant with big consequences.”

🪶 Indigenous Leaders Shape Global Conservation Agenda at Historic IUCN Summit:

  • 📰 The quick summary: Over 100 Indigenous leaders are gathering at the IUCN World Conservation Congress to set conservation priorities and strengthen Indigenous participation in environmental negotiations, helping to align global biodiversity and climate commitments with Indigenous stewardship.
  • 📈 One key stat: IUCN has supported communal land titling for over 117,532 hectares through the PODONG Indigenous Peoples Initiative, demonstrating concrete progress in securing Indigenous land tenure.
  • 💬 One key quote: “The summit is an affirmation that Indigenous peoples are not peripheral stakeholders, but rightful stewards of life on Earth,” IUCN director-general Grethel Aguilar told Mongabay.
