Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Solar power in the UK has surged by 42% in the first five months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, helping to reduce dependence on imported gas and stabilize energy bills.
📈 One key stat: The UK’s solar power generation reached 7.6 terawatt hours in the first five months of 2025, avoiding gas imports worth approximately $813.9 million.
💬 One key quote: “Solar power is rising faster than most people realise. It is cheap, fast to install and every unit of electricity it generates here in the UK displaces two units of imported gas,” said Simon Evans, senior policy editor at Carbon Brief.

1️⃣ The big picture: The United Kingdom has experienced a remarkable surge in solar energy production, with solar farms and rooftops generating 42% more electricity from January through May 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. This record-breaking performance coincides with the UK experiencing its sunniest spring since record-keeping began in 1910. Solar capacity in the UK has grown significantly, reaching 20.2 GW by the end of 2024 after several years of stagnation. For the first time ever, solar power contributed more than 10% of the UK’s electricity generation for two consecutive months (April and May), marking an important milestone in the country’s transition to renewable energy.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This solar surge has helped the UK avoid importing gas that would have cost approximately $813.9 million and prevented the release of about 6.61 million tons of carbon dioxide. Solar power reached new records with a half-hourly peak of 13.2 gigawatts on April 6th, meeting 40% of electricity demand at that time. The combination of falling prices and growing capacity increases solar’s economic benefits for consumers and businesses alike. Rising solar adoption aligns perfectly with the UK’s ambition to decarbonize its power sector and become a “clean-energy superpower” with plans to reach at least 45 GW of solar capacity by the end of the decade.

3️⃣ What’s next: The UK is moving forward with several gigantic solar installations, including the Heckington Fen and Gate Burton solar farms, each capable of producing 500 MW of electricity. Approximately 3 GW of new capacity has already been approved for development. As more solar panels are installed alongside new wind turbines, the country’s reliance on imported gas will continue to decrease, enhancing energy independence.
