Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Grassroots waterbody restoration efforts across 204 villages in Maharashtra, India have created storage capacity for 500 crore liters of water, transforming drought-prone areas into more fertile landscapes that support improved farmer livelihoods.
📈 One key stat: The initiative has built infrastructure capable of storing more than 500 crore liters of water across 204 villages, providing critical water security in a region previously devastated by drought.
💬 One key quote: “The initiative’s success lies in its combination of community empowerment and practical engineering. Chavan emphasises that the work is not about charity but ownership; villagers contribute labour, materials, and decision-making, and they form water committees to manage and maintain restored water bodies long after construction.”

1️⃣ The big picture: A former Indian Revenue Service officer has spearheaded a transformative water conservation movement in Maharashtra’s drought-prone villages. Ujjwal Kumar Chavan returned to his home region and mobilized local communities to build a network of water storage systems using simple yet effective rainwater harvesting techniques. The grassroots approach focuses on storing water where it falls through small check dams, ponds, and runoff capture structures. This decentralized water management system now spans 204 villages and has created storage capacity for 500 crore liters of water, dramatically changing the agricultural and environmental prospects of the region.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Farmers in these once-parched villages now have access to irrigation water throughout critical dry months, stabilizing crop production and doubling some farmers’ incomes. Previously dry streams and riverbeds flow more consistently, while rising groundwater levels have brought abandoned wells back into use. The restored water systems support increased biodiversity and improve soil moisture retention, reducing the need for seasonal migration from rural communities. Unlike expensive centralized projects, these community-managed solutions are adapted to local geography and social structures, making them more resilient to climate variability and empowering villages with water independence.

3️⃣ What’s next: Chavan continues his mission outside government service by training new leaders who can implement similar systems elsewhere. The successful model is being promoted as a blueprint for other drought-prone regions across India. As climate change intensifies water stress throughout South Asia, this community-based approach offers a sustainable alternative to traditional top-down interventions.
